BioShock: Rapture • #TurnThePageTuesday • The year was 1945. The #world had thrust itself deep into a #war unlike any that had come before it, & with the devastation wrought in #Nagasaki & #Hiroshima it seemed as though the state of the world would only get worse before it got better. While the rest of the world clashed, one man decided to take a different route - a path that would take him far away from the wickedness of the world. He would choose something different. Something impossible. He would choose.. *#Rapture.* • I want to start this #review by saying that, regardless of whether or not you’ve played the #videogame, this is a #book that’s well worth the #read. While playing the #game will give you access to its abundance of #EasterEggs, it isn’t necessarily a prerequisite for #reading. Author #JohnShirley does an excellent #job of reintroducing these #characters in a manner that, regardless of whether you’ve played the game or not, you’ll have a firm understanding of who they are. Not only that, but his detailed writing paints a perfect picture of the veritable #Atlantis, as he depicts the underwater #Metropolis exactly as I had imagined it. • In addition to that, his writing style is magnificent. His use of the ever omnipotent observer (third person) is incredible, & makes it feel as though each character is, somehow, narrating their own stories; giving each character their own unique observer atop their own distinctive voice. • In addition to his use of language, he also tells an incredible story - weaving in all of the aspects of both the original#BioShock & its #sequel, #BioShock2. One of my absolute favorite aspects comes from his incorporating the #AudioDiaries from the original game. That was such a wonderful addition because it brought so much more meaning to those moments - understanding the mindset & emotional state of the characters as they made their audio #diaries. It was a genuine #treat. • At this point I think I’ve made my case for why you should read this book. #Fans of the game or not, BioShock: Rapture tells an incredible story that’s definitely worth reading. • My rating 10/10 • And now back to your regularly scheduled feed!
