who is this emerson vannett fellow i've seen you put in the tags of reblogs serveral times lately. i checked your tag of him but couldn't find too much info, mainly pics. tell me about yer ocs :3c
Yeah I found a cool new faceclaim for him. He’s a CM:TNG character originally; his power, being basically a ripoff of the Shinigami Eyes from Death Note, allows him to see people’s names and dates of birth and death, as well as being able to see grim reapers. And ghosts in other continuities, because it’s tidier that way, but he doesn’t get that one in TNG because of ‘licensing issues’ with another player’s ghost-related plotlines (basically, only certain characters are allowed to have that power).
His general character concept is that he’s very nice and well-mannered but sort of awkward and spooky. Sometimes he drops everything to hang out with people who he knows are going to die soon. Also he has to make an effort to not seem like a creeper since he automatically knows people’s names 99% of the time. (He got the good manners from not wanting to offend the grim reapers he met. Pissing off the people who might someday collect your soul just seemed like something that should be avoided.)
He’s kinda fatalistic and morbid in a cheerful sort of way from years of having a front-row seat to inevitable deaths, but not quite as fatalistic as he could be, because unlike many uses of visible deathclocks it doesn’t require supernatural intervention for these ones to recalibrate themselves. They update themselves when someone’s life takes a turn that puts them on a path to a different death at a different time, which is usually based on their life decisions but can be just something random (especially if they were going to die in a random accident), or come out of seemingly nowhere because someone else decided to do or not do something that affected whether character A lived or died at a later point. So there’s a balance of inevitability versus being able to change your fate there; sometimes you can get out of it and sometimes you can’t.
Also he sees the world in spot-color-o-vision (monochrome except for saturated reds) because I thought that would be cool. Originally I was thinking ‘shades of red’ like the filter used for the Shinigami Eyes in the anime but then it occurred to me that if you don’t have any other colours to compare it to, it would basically just register as greyscale.
other random facts:
He’s gay and in CM:TNG he has a crush on a cute reaper boy played by somebody else; Emerson already has a faint aura of the charming yet slightly unsettling light-haired anime boy and this dude is even more so
One of the first things I came up with about his design was that he should have blond hair and red eyes, so his colour scheme (red, gold, and neutrals with a lot of black in particular for Goth Reasons) got locked in quite early
He’s friends with Dora and Minnie, although I have no idea how they met, and they’re all kind of off doing their own thing most of the time in CM:TNG (Dora being embroiled in like 8 different plotlines with characters she met through those, and Minnie has a lot of friends but spends the most time with her childhood best pal and her former housemate). Partly this interaction shortage is because I don’t actually like playing CamChars interacting with each other in RP, on account of it feeling self-indulgent. But they seemed like they’d make good pals so I decided they were anyway.
