Inheritance from a younger self

First impressions of an artists' work are mostly based on visual aspects. Investigating it further you go deeper into her or his world, and if there is one, the reward is that you learn more about yourself.

I've been an admirer of the illustrations by John Vernon Lord and looking at his pages you would think he is troubled with the 'horror vacui,' the angst for empty spaces. But in an interview, he tells the story of his grandmother who told him to draw into every corner because paper was so scarce during the war. I started to think of which limitation(s) in my youth came to fruition later on. As I remember privacy and space were strongly lacking, and I believe that is the reason why I'm comfortable in a small studio drawing and writing in a journal.
