Vriska watched the clock as it moved closer to her lunch break. She was in desperate need of a cigarette or two, something to soothe her momentarily before resuming her day of monotonous practice. Despite that feeling of every day running together as a blur of waking up, practicing, smoking, bullying her old friends and heading home; every run through of the performance had small flaws. She could feel her mistakes the second they happened. When she had fallen out of a turn early, when her degage’s not sharp enough, when she let her upper body carry her arabesques. All those years of corrections being barked at her had engrained themselves into her mind and body. The clock had struck 11:30, it was time for a much needed cigarette and maybe a hot black coffee. Vriska began changing out of her pointe shoes and into her comfortable red sneakers. She fished through her bag for her glasses case. Before leaving the studio, she checked that her trusty menthols and lighter were in her cardigan pocket before locking the studio behind her. She was not heading back for her smokes if she forgot them, she’d just buy a new carton. She passed by Kanaya’s desk. A pile of white fabrics and a sewing kit placed neatly on the desk next to her while she was engrossed in her admin duties regarding the dance studio.
