It was Friday at the Hale household, and both Jolene and Diane headed off to work at the Neptune Elementary School.
I've decided to not play the school every weekday anymore like I did before. The days are too much the same for it to be enjoyable, so from now on, I'll play the school 2-3 times per rotation. The idea with the school is for the children to get to know each other and start learning a few skills, and 2-3 days will be enough to accomplish that.
Far east of the Sim City shores, there is an Island called Neptune. Eight sims have been sent there to build a community, which is hoped to one day grow into a new town.
This is the Neptune Project.
Let me introduce you to the eight founders (from left to right): Ocean Green, Elena Remington, Jack Hart, Jolene Nilsson, Emma Norbert, Alexander Nelson, Julia Adler, and Jesper Adler.
Open below to read each sim's introduction.
Ocean Green, the mayor of Neptune. 23 y/o. Knowledge sim.
Ocean is the definition of a city girl. Everyone she knows was shocked by her decision to move to this remote place, and without any of her friends joining her at that.
But there is a lot more to her than the partying city girl everyone knew. Ocean's very ambitious, and she was well aware that her career in politics wasn’t getting anywhere in Sim City. The opportunity to become the mayor of a new town that she would help develop was exactly the challenge she needed in her life.
Elena Remington. 23 y/o. Fortune sim.
Elena Remington is the youngest child of the famous businessman Roland Remington. Most sims from Sim City know of the Remington family. They’re one of the richest families in the world, only beaten by the Landgraabs and the Goths (who are royalty in this universe btw. We’ll probably meet them eventually).
Elena grew up having everything she ever wanted, but the older she got the more she realized she was stuck. She had no say in her own life. Every decision was made by her parents. Her career, her future house, and even her future husband were picked for her, and she wouldn't have it anymore.
When she heard about the Neptune project, she realized that it was a way out for her. She knew she would never see the fortune she was supposed to inherit, but at least she would be free to live her life the way she wanted in Neptune.
Jolene Nilsson. 23 y/o. Family sim.
Jolene has had a pretty rough year. First, she was dumped by her long-term girlfriend, and then she found out that she didn't get accepted into her dream college. When her best friend Emma suggested they'd join the Neptune Project instead, she didn't even hesitate for a second. There was nothing for her in Sim City anyway.
There was only one problem... Emma's love interest Alexander was joining them too.
Emma Norbert. 23 y/o. Popularity sim.
Emma didn't get accepted into college either but wasn't as upset about it as her best friend was. Most things she did in life were on a whim, so she could more easily shrug things off when they didn't go as planned. This move to Neptune was probably yet another whim of hers...
But there were three things in life she was more serious about. Her love for Alexander, her best friend Jolene, and collecting insects.
Alexander Nelson. 23 y/o. Romance sim.
Alexander and Emma had been hanging out for a few months now, and he knew he'd eventually get bored of her. Like he'd with all the other girls before her. She was important to him though, which surprised him. The question was how important.
Well, at least important enough to follow her and her friend to this remote island of Neptune.
Julia Adler. 26 y/o. Family sim.
Julia is the oldest of the Adler siblings. When she was only 19 years old their parents passed away in a tragic car accident, leaving her to take care of her younger brother by herself. It has always been a dream of hers to move to a rural place and live off the land, and maybe start her own business selling the produce.
The Neptune Project was the perfect opportunity for her to do just that.
Jesper Adler. 23 y/o. Pleasure sim.
Jesper was only 16 when his parents died and he has stayed with his sister ever since. When she started talking about the Neptune Project he wasn't sure that it was what he wanted in life, but he wasn't ready to be separated from his sister yet.
He didn't really have a plan for life anyway, he might as well help her realize her dream.
Jack Hart. 23 y/o. Family sim.
Jack has always felt out of place in the big city. He's longed for a quieter life somewhere else, where he could focus on his woodworking and start a small business selling his crafts.
Jolene was starting to feel restless. She had a hard time even admitting it to herself, but she actually missed her days working in the store. She decided to go to the park. She had to get out of the house and meet other sims.
She ran into Jesper. Sweet and wonderful Jesper, she couldn't be happier that he and Emma had found each other. She just wished Emma wasn't so stubborn and would ask Jesper for help, which got Jolene thinking... What if...?
"You and Emma are perfect together, you know that right?"
"Oh. Uh. Thank you, Jolene"
"You should ask her to move in with you"
"Wh-what? I'm pretty sure she doesn't want me to"
"She does. I promise you. She's just too stubborn to even realize it herself"
"I don't know, Jolene. I promised her we'd take it slow"
"Look, Emma is capable of taking care of herself but this town is not fit for a single parent. She knows that too. There are no babysitters and barely any jobs, especially not with hours suited for a single parent"
"What about Alexander, I'm sure he-"
"Emma wants him out, Jesper. She'd rather not rely on anyone, but she most definitely doesn't want to rely on him"
Jesper considered what she'd just said.
"Also," Jolene hesitated. "I love both her and Martin but... I need my life back"
There, I said it out loud.
"You can never tell her I said that" she quickly added.
Jesper seemed a little taken aback by her honesty.
"Promise me, Jesper"
"Of course. I promise I won't tell her"
"I know I'm being selfish asking this of you, but I swear to you, Emma wants this, and if you want it too... You should ask her"
An hour later, Ocean came over holding a wrapped gift in her hands.
“To the new parents and their baby boy,” she said handing the gift over to Alexander with a smile. “Congrats to you”
“Thank you. You really didn't have to though”
"I wanted to. Go on, open it"
Alexander started to unwrap the gift.
“What is it?” Jolene asked, curiously peeking over his shoulder. “Oh my, Ocean. This is perfect”
“A bed for Martin” Alexander held it in his hands. He smiled warmly at Ocean. “Thank you again. This will really help”
“I wouldn't call it a bed, more like a basket with bedding in it” Ocean laughed. “It was the best I could do though. Hopefully, Jack's ready to open his furniture store soon”
“I’ll go see what Martin thinks of it,” Jolene said leaving Alexander and Ocean by themselves in the entrance hall.
They ran out of food the next day, so Jolene had to go grocery shopping. They were low on money so they could only afford enough food to last them for a few days.
Their financial situation worried Jolene, and soon she would live by herself without an income, which didn't make her feel any better.
Emma wasn't sure what'd made her change her mind, but she was happy she did. Now she had much more time to be outside hunting bugs.
She and Jolene could finally hang out just the two of them, too. Emma realized they hadn't talked much since Martin was born. Not like they used to, anyway.
“I met Jesper the other day,” Jolene said when they were spending some time together outdoors. She had an expression on her face that Emma couldn't quite read.
“What?” Emma asked, suspicious.
“What?” Jolene replied, with a sly smile.
Emma just shook her head and laughed at her friend.
“Sometimes I think you’re more excited about me and Jesper than I am, and I'm very excited about us”
