Here is a short list of books and comics written in the Dutch (or Flemish) language that are easy to read and might be helpful of learners!

Roel Thijsen - De kandidaat (The candidate): For people who are interested in political scandals

Jonas Boets - Liever de leugen (Rather the lie): One of my favourite endings ever!

Pieter Aspe - Zonder spijt (Without regret): Pieter Aspe is perfect for readers who are interested in West Flemish society and crime stories!

Dirk Bracke - Black: Teen novel about teenagers trying to escape the gang life in Brussels. Dirk Bracke is one of the best known teen novel authors.

Herman Koch - Het dinner (The supper)

Kader Abdolah - Het huis van de moskee (The house of the mosque): Iranian history

Hugo Claus - Het verdriet van België (The sorrow of Belgium)

Louis Paul Boon - De Kapellekensbaan

Anne Frank - Het Achterhuis (The diary of Anne Frank, but literally it means ‘secret annex’)

Jan Cremer - Ik, Jan Cremer (I, Jan Cremer)

Willem Elsschot - Lijmen (To glue)

Griet Op de Beeck - Het beste wat we hebben (The best we have)

Stefan Hertmans - Oorlog en Terpentijn (War and turpuntine): Based on the First World War

Deflo - Lokaas (Bait): Detective!!

Paul Kustermans - De Valeriusmoorden (The Valerius murders): Teens who are on a special boarding school are trying to solve the sudden murders

Merho - De Kiekeboes: These were my favourite comics while growing up! You follow the family Kiekeboe throughout their bizarre adventures and daily life habits

Jef Nys - Jommeke:  I suggest the comic ‘Kinderen baas’ (The children are the boss)

Dany - Rode oortjes (Red ears): For the erotic lovers among you *wink wink*
