BAD SEED (2000)

I have fallen down a Bad Seed well (Part I, Part II) so I might as well round it out with this totally unrelated movie with Luke Wilson and Norman Reedus (so strange seeing Wilson be so serious and Reedus be so lovey dovey). Watching Luke Wilson make faces all movie is kind of tough to see. A sad thriller about sad people who just can’t seem to figure their lives out.

Trigger Warning Suicide 

Our movie starts out with a bang, Luke Wilson's character Preston is informed by his wife that she has been unfaithful. He storms out and by the time he blows back in she is unconscious on the floor, having been murdered by someone. The jilted lover perhaps? All they have is the name Jonathan. But then Preston finds love letters his wife saved from Jonathan that had his address so he just goes over there and kills the guy in the house. We are barely twelve minutes in and he is already burying the body, bam. Case closed, right? WRONG! Cause Preston got the wrong guy! We got Jonathan's brother who is (well, was) mentally impaired so Jonathan looked after him and also had a camera in his room so saw everything Preston did to the poor guy. Jonathan, played by Norman Reedus, shows up with a gun to Preston's head and is ready to make him pay! (The soda ad placement in this film is wack as Hell, they will not stop bringing it up.) 

The chase begins! We get to a point in the chase where Jonathan shoots at Preston in his car and so Preston has the bright idea to get OUT OF THE CAR and run away instead of using the car as a car and driving away. Wack. Big chase scene but Jon-o comes out on top. Preston hires a private detective whose name is literally Dick and they try to steal the tape of the murder back from Jonathan but all that happens is Preston gets shot in the arm and Dick gets knifed in the hand. Wack. Preston then watches a video of his late wife cheating on him and he loses his cool completely. 

Jonathan is following Preston and Dick and there are another couple thrilling chase scenes which climax with Preston and Jonathan nearly falling off a cliff but just barely grabbing onto some roots just in time, Preston is able to pull himself up with no help but Jonathan needs a hand or he is going to fall. Preston to the rescue! This save settles things with the boys, it also comes to a point that we realize that Jonathan's brother probably killed the wife because he was sad that she didn’t want to see Jon-o anymore. This a weird twist because I don’t really see why he cares that much, I guess because she won’t be in his life anymore but still… Preston ends up giving himself up to the police for killing a man. Jonathan gets caught at a gas station so casually lights himself on fire (not wanting to go on without his lover or his brother). The movie ends with Preston enjoying the rain on his face.

And just like that Jon Bokenkamp just left the Blacklist!! Are we in an alternate reality??? Why even have a season 9. What’s the point?? Will the show even be the Blacklist we have grown to love??
