Among all the misogynistic pigs in ASOIAF, Jon Connington stands out.
"A bride for our bright prince. Jon Connington remembered Prince Rhaegar's wedding all too well. Elia was never worthy of him. She was frail and sickly from the first, and childbirth only left her weaker. After the birth of Princess Rhaenys, her mother had been bedridden for half a year, and Prince Aegon's birth had almost been the death of her."
- A Dance with Dragons - The Griffin Reborn
The bile that this raggedy useless absolute failure ginger white man has for a woc r*pe and murder victim, who was tortured with having to witness her children's butchery, all because he simps/lusts for the even bigger failure fuckboy husband she unfortunately had, who lost the only battle he ever fought in...
And to think this malicious mole is raising a kid he thinks was birthed by Elia. He's never told Young Griff a single good or kind thing about Elia Martell beyond her being the woman who birthed him, while lamenting Rhaegar the Loser's loss to high heavens.
He says Elia sacrificed her already frail health and nearly died to give Rhaegar two kids, one of them a male heir, he knows Elia was rap*d and murdered because Rhaegar couldn't keep it in his pants, and still he says SHE was never worthy of the husband who used and discarded her.
And then he immediately turns around and asks for military help from her brother IN HER NAME!
"To Prince Doran of House Martell, You will remember me, I pray. I knew your sister well, and was a leal servant of your good-brother. I grieve for them as you do. I did not die, no more than did your sister's son. To save his life we kept him hidden, but the time for hiding is done. A dragon has returned to Westeros to claim his birthright and seek vengeance for his father, and for the princess Elia, his mother. In her name I turn to Dorne. Do not forsake us."
The Winds of Winter - Arianne I
"I knew your sister WELL." He writes.
"Elia was never worthy of Rhaegar." He thinks. (So what he really wants to say, but can't, is 'I hated your sister well.')
"I grieve for them as you do."
No, you don't, you lying jealous ginger sty scum. (Demonic to compare a man losing his only sister and her children to r*pe and murder, to Jon Con's loss of the married man he lusted for, who didn't even bother to count Jon amongst his closest friends.)
"In HER NAME I turn to Dorne, do not forsake us."
If this is not THE BIGGEST example in the series of how evil misogynistic men will keep using women for all they are worth, all the while internally cursing and hating them, even AFTER women have been long dead due to getting r*ped and murdered, I don't know what is.
In ASOIAF, we have male characters who beat women, male characters who r*pe women, male characters who murder women, male characters who do all three, and male characters who make their wives risk their lives in childbed repeatedly in the span of two years only to move on to the next younger thing while the postpartum wife is struggling to stay alive, only to STILL let the wife be held hostage with her kids by her father in law just to get her homeland's army for a battle to save the husband's family dynasty.
And then we have Jon Connington.
A man who will not even leave the woman he unfairly despises alone in death.
Because, well, he still needs her. 🤷♂️ Can still use her. WILL use her.
Oberyn Martell died saying "SAY HER NAME!!"
Jon Con heard it and immediately thought "Good idea! I'll trick her grieving family and kingdom to participate in the conquest war I've started only for the sake of Rhaegar's legacy, while pretending I give damn about justice for unworthy Elia! I'll just make sure not to say this last bit to them!"
