Orion Beaumont —51 — Businessman — Original Character
the good: sociable, competitive, adaptable the bad: jealous, venomous, pedantic
Past & Present
There’s a special kind of jealousy that comes from being the oldest child, and Orion’s never been one to shy away from this fact. He remains good-humored when talking about how his parents kept an impossibly strong chokehold on him throughout his youth, and he even admits that he could’ve probably used the guidance more than the rest of the Beaumont children. Wild and rambunctious, Orion was prone to picking on his younger siblings out of some brotherly desire to toughen them up before they got to Hogwarts. Edison, Sera, and Archer might disagree, but Orion still credits some of their accomplishments to his special brand of shepherding. It’s with great fondness that Orion recounts taunting his siblings with the pseudo-fear that they’d end up being the first squibs in the Beaumont household. Give him enough time to gather his bearings and he’ll even stop laughing long enough to rattle off a story about how he once convinced Edison that a Lethifold had invaded their home.
As an obnoxiously proud Gryffindor, Orion set himself apart from his siblings during his school days. He roamed the halls of Hogwarts with a close-knit group of friends and made a concerted effort to spend as little time as he possibly could with his family. The year he didn’t return home for the holiday was perhaps the most contentious point of his school days, but he was given a pass thanks to a cleverly-crafted lie about how a dear friend would be alone on Christmas if not for his presence. It was in this way -- - with small lies and self-imposed martyrdom - -- that Orion managed to escape the punishment of parents who were oftentimes not privy to his mean streak.
Even from a tender age, it was incredibly apparent that the accepting and open-minded nature of the Beaumont family had been lost on Orion. He wasn’t a Death Eater by any means, but he refused to pretend as if there was no pride in being from such a prestigious, pureblooded wizarding family. They had been making Beaumont Cloaks since before Beaumont cloaks had become the equivalent of wizarding Dior. They’d invented the Howler, for Merlin’s sake! Bowing to the sensitives of half-bloods and muggle-borns didn’t suit Orion, and he wore his pride on his sleeve every chance he got. An endless supply of howlers was dangerous in the hands of his father, especially when word got around that Orion bragged freely of the Beaumont’s heritage and wealth, but Orion held his head high while he tormented the poor souls who were determined to be lesser than him. These days, he makes a show of expressing regret for his intolerance, but there’s a fair share of skepticism as to how deep his remorse runs.
One thing is certain, and it’s that he would never have been given the helm of Beaumont Cloaks if he wasn’t repentant enough to slip under the radar of Mr. and Mrs. Beaumont. Truth be told, he didn’t particularly want the position until he got wind of the fact that they were considering handing the company over to Edison upon their retirement. There are times when he wonders if he would’ve been given the title of CEO if Edison hadn’t bought the Chudley Cannons, but that matters less than the fact that he’s the face of the company now. Edison might’ve gotten acclaim for winning the World Cup with the family’s favorite team, but Orion made moves to take Beaumont Cloaks to the next level. Stores have been popping up all over Europe and throughout the UK, but it isn’t enough. It’s never enough.
Though usually scarce on game day, Orion’s presence on the pitch has become more pronounced since Chudley took home the cup. He’s full of backhanded compliments and embarrassing stories about the new owner of the team, but he’s also been seen lurking around practices for various other teams in the league. Rumors have begun to swirl as to whether or not another Beaumont child is looking to make his mark on the British and Irish Quidditch League, but Orion has put all of those to bed by pointing out the obvious: He’s quite happy with Beaumont Cloaks, and attempting to balance his responsibilities with his personal life is difficult enough without throwing a quidditch team into the mix. And what kind of brother would he be if he snatched little Edi’s world cup right out of his hands? A sorry one, to be sure.
Orion Beaumont looks like Jon Hamm and is TAKEN.
