Now that both of these are done, I can yap about the point of them!
The hand signs, what do they mean? As the graphics explain, they're largely symbolic gestures used to amplify magick. I tagged it as "magick theory" because this is an academic system, largely based on theory studied and passed down for generations. Magick is defined by its seemingly limitless possibilities. An Empyrean can still focus and channel their magick without using hand signs, and most do. Those Empyreans who do use hand signs would be some of the most powerful. Thematically, the use of hand signs signify that the caster has a deeply theoretical understanding of magick.
There's a balance between the "facts" of magick and the theories that expand it as a field of study. It's a fact that the _ignis_ incantation creates fire, but its shape, form, effect, etc. can be manipulated by the caster's will and desires. It takes time and perseverance the study and test even just one incantation's limits. One scholar might say something is impossible, but a later one might find a way to make it happen regardless of the perceived limitations.
The Empyrean aware of magick's ability to grow, who also possesses the will to harness that growth, would use hand signs. Telos would be the most used one, as its much more versatile in use over Omphalos. One might create a wall of flames; Telos would allow them to direct the flames into a new shape, turning their defense into an offense. One might want to unleash a large-scale attack; Omphalos would help the caster channel their magick until they're ready to speak the incantation.
I was inspired by a member in my world building disc to do some infographics. They do sort of lore blurbs and I really like them. I want the idea of lore explanations to lead my thought process in drawing my characters, cause it motivates me to push and challenge myself. I'm such a perfectionist and so strict that I won't allow myself to half-ass something about my lore lmao. So it's a good motivator.
