Jonathan Cores - An Afternoon Without Me
Sometimes I think of that place we would sit and silently pretend there would be no more weeks to begin, only time flitted away looking out across that river like it was some vast ocean, tracing perfect hearts and circles in the grass, hoping for the same.
I picture that place in my mind.
I know I was there: when she glances up, someone is there to catch it. But when I look now, I can only see the present, both of my mind's representation, and that place itself: I have never been back. And she sits there alone, without anyone, waiting, possibly. Maybe for me, maybe for someone else - she hasn't said, and I haven't.
