Their first few dates were simple dinner dates hosted by Ghost. They'd eat dinner, watch a movie, and then go to bed.
Eventually, Ghost got comfortable enough to ask Alice if she wanted to do something in the city. Uhm, do what? Good question! He did not think he'd get this far. Perhaps they could just walk around the city and see what interests them (preferably nothing crime-related).
Cue Alice dragging Ghost around the city like a child in a toy store (of which they visited 3. why does build-a-bear cost so damn much?!). They had dinner in a nice fancy restaurant, watched the sunset at a park....then it started raining, as it often did in their city. So the two took cover in an indoor mall.
They ended up running into Daisy and Harley, who were also on a date! Ghost was apprehensive to join them, as the night already wasn't going too well & the last thing he needed was them giving him shit for dating Alice (again). After the four of them walked around for a bit, Alice & Harley wandered off to try on some clothes, leaving Ghost & Daisy together.
“She does seem happy with you,” Daisy said after a while.
“Of course.” Ghost replied. “I treat her well.”
Daisy glared at him. “Taking advantage of a child’s nativity isn’t ‘treating her well’, Ghost.” He sighed.
“This is your problem. You treat her like a child.”
“She is a child! Did you not just hear what I said?!”
“Oh, really?” Ghost looked her in the eye. “Do children kidnap people, hypnotize them, break their brains to the point of insanity? Face it, Daisy. She stopped being a child the day she became one of us. A villain. That’s what she is, and that is what you should treat her as.”
Daisy looked down. Ghost continued. “I won’t pretend to know why you’re so overprotective of Alice. That is information I have no interest in. But let me be clear, Daisy: underestimating her is a mistake all her victims make. Don’t let yourself fall for it, too.”
“You really think she knows what she’s doing?”
He shrugged. “None of us did when we started. Perhaps if things were different, Alice and I wouldn’t even be dating. I’m sure you’d like to live in that reality more.”
“Maybe so.” She mumbled.
Alice & Harley return with some new clothes that they....stole?! Oh...they gotta get out of here! And so concluded Alice & Ghost's first "official" date. Did it go well? Sort of. Are they gonna do it again? With more planning, probably. Will Daisy stop being so overprotective of Alice for seemingly no reason? Tune in next time on: Mad as a Crow: Ghostverse AU!

I woke up that morning with the memories of the night before playing over in my mind. The way Rufo eyed me as he approached the bed. How he took the remote from me and changed it to a music station, one that was playing oldies. He had grabbed my hand and we danced a little to the music. No words between the two of us and I felt we didn’t need them. Even when he had me pinned down to the bed there were no words but the sounds that filled the room. I had to blink hard and shake my head before sitting up. I could feel my cheeks heated with the blush that was sure to be bright on them. That’s when I realized Rufo wasn’t lying beside me.
I got up from the bed and made my way to the bathroom thinking maybe he was just getting ready for a shower. Though when I saw the bathroom was empty my heart started to sink. I went back to the main room and that’s when I saw the note on the desk. I took it in hand and sat down on the bed to read it.
“(Y/N),
I hate to leave like this but it’s what’s best. Go on and enjoy yourself and the rest of your vacation. Thanks for letting me tag along for as long as you would let me. Thanks for the memories and good times doll.
And just remember, gray skies are gonna clear up.
Rufo the Clown”
I sat there for I don’t remember how long until the knock on the door from room service startled me, telling me it was about time for me to get going. Even packing up and leaving in my car felt like a blur. He had left some time in the night when I was deep in sleep. Probably knew I would have asked him to stay and tell him that things would be alright. All I could do was sigh to myself and try to think of what next was on my agenda before the clown had joined. Before I found myself attached in some way.
I decided to go to the circus that we had planned to go to together. I’m sure he wouldn’t be there and it would help get my mind off of things by having some fun. I managed to find decent parking and bought my wrist band so I could freely enjoy everything the circus had to offer.
The rides were the typical rides you would find at a travelling circus and I admit I rode the Tilt A Whirl and Scrambler more times than I could count. I even managed to go on the Ferris Wheel alone even though I could feel my heartbeat pounding hard in my chest when I was at the very top all alone. The view was worth it though as I looked out the tree lines and hills in the far-off distance. I even managed to get a good couple of pictures before the descent back down.
I made it to the big top show just in time to get a good seat close to the front amongst the sea of people. The show was splendid, and I joined in on the clapping and cheering of the crowd after each act. I didn’t even notice the gaze of the tall brown-haired man who looked ever so plain in the crowd. Heck, I didn’t even notice as he was getting closer behind me when the large group of folk were guided out of the tent so they could once again enjoy the festivities outside. Though when he grabbed me that’s when he finally got my attention.
“Evening cupcake. I hope you enjoyed the show because we have some place we need to go.” His grip got painfully tight as he shoved me into his body as he made his way through the crowd. I don’t even think my feet touched the ground much.
“Let go of me!” I shouted and even though I was loud enough for several people to hear me, none of them looked at me. “Let me fucking go!” I screamed again and tried to jerk away. It always most worked but his grip was too tight and ready.
“Now, now, don’t want to ruin everyone else’s day. That would be rude cupcake. Though, there is one person I need to see you like this.” As I squirmed I saw him scanning around and then he grinned. I didn’t really like that smile of his.
“I said let me go!” I kept trying to jerk my body away again despite the pain in my arms from his hold. It almost felt like I was about to break my own bones to get out of his grip and I damn well would if that’s what I needed to happen.
Though when I looked up to see if anyone was looking I noticed one person. Rufo looking as human as ever. He was looking right at me and at Crowley. That’s when I saw the eyes in his skull sink and his skin start to tear away.
“(Y/N)! Crowley! Let her go! She’s got nothing to do with us!” I could hear the change in his voice from how it normally sounded to a dry growl as if his vocal cords were becoming taut.
“And now we make our exit.” There had been a sea of people between us and I managed to get an arm free as I reached out to Rufo.
It didn’t matter though as the people cleared away for Crowley and seemed to move in front of Rufo which didn’t end too well as they were shoved away or worse. Tears welled up in my eyes as Rufo got further and further away and eventually my arm drooped down. Crowley didn’t speak as he got me into a car, tying up my hands though still made sure I was comfortable in the back seat of my car. All I could feel was my heart aching the further we drove away.
My eyes stayed looking out the window and watching how the road twist and turned. I didn’t have a clue where were going and I doubt Crowley would give me an answer. Though I didn’t need to wait long as he pulled off to a dirt road which my car didn’t like too much with all the bumps, but it made due as we approached a small wooden cabin tucked away in the trees.
“Almost done (Y/N). Don’t you worry.” Crowley finally spoke just before getting out of the car. He came around and got me out so we could trudge our way into the little cabin.
It looked as if he had been staying here for about a day. There were some kerosene lanterns lit and the furniture that was there seemed to have always been there with an almost decaying appearance. Laying out on a starting to rot tabletop was a brief case and inside was a various things like chalk, crystals, and vials filled with questionable liquid. He had me seated on one of the sturdier chairs.
“Now, sit there and be good for me cupcake.” He tied my ankles to the chair, and finally he fashioned a rope around my torso to keep my arms pinned to my sides.
“Why are you doing this to me Crowley?” My eyes followed him as he went back to the table and he grabbed a piece of chalk from it.
“It’s not necessarily a you thing. It’s a more of him thing.” He jutted his head toward the door that we came in as he turned. “Him and I have been fighting each other for quite some time.” He moved to the center and got to work drawing a large circle and various symbols. “You see cupcake, I’m very old. Much older than you can probably imagine. I’m under certain rules and obligation to get rid of evil things. Especially when they get under my skin and make me itch.” His eyes stared into mine and that damned smile of his was back. “And he’s like the damn chicken pox.”
I didn’t say anything more as I watched him finish up. He wiped his hands on a rag which he tossed onto the table along with his supplies. He paced around the room for a bit, peaking out the window now and again.
“What makes you think he’s going to know where I am? That’s he’s going to come for me?” My leg was bouncing, well what it could with my legs tied to the chair. “I’m not much of a prize.”
“You say that but that’s not what I see.” He turned his attention to me. “He doesn’t put up with many people and put up is a strong phrase. Most of the humans he comes in contact with end up dead.” He strolled over to me and leaned over so he could get in my face. “And you two seem to have gotten rather close.” As he said that his eyes flicked over me and there was that smile that sent chills through my body. “So that makes you pretty special, cupcake.”
“We just had a lot in common. That’s all.” I tried to look away, but I could still feel his eyes staring into me. If I could fidget more in my seat, I would have. “At least I’d like to think we did.”
“Well, you have some time to think about all those things in common cupcake. It’s gonna take some time for him to find us since there were some dead-end roads on the way here that he’s gonna have to figure out for himself. So kick back, relax. Take a load off.” Crowley had a jokester smile as he stood back up and grabbed a chair for himself at the table.
So I sat there, staring at the door. Thoughts flooded my mind as I imagined Rufo trying to find me. If he was. From the window I could see some clouds over the trees roll by and all I could think of was the storms these past few days. How Rufo took it upon himself to comfort me, to distract me what ways he could. The way he looked at me with those icy blue eyes. How he held me tight to his side as we watched rerun after rerun of Cops in some hotel in the middle of nowhere. The way he looked at me during our few moments of passion followed by his lingering touches throughout the day. Hell, how he even murdered someone to keep me safe. It had honestly been one of the most enjoyable times in my life in so long.
It was that moment when I decided that I would do anything for Rufo.
Cecil Phelps had been a nice man in life. He was less pleasant in death.
A stage was growing from the ruptured turf. Almost ten feet wide and easily as deep, it rose smoothly through the rising applause of the people. One figure rose with it, a tall, almost gaunt man with dark, curling hair that fell to his shoulders in a thick cascade. He wore a top hat and tails, gaudily festooned with sequins and done completely in red.
The skin on his face was drawn tight, stretched over bones to the point where he was surprised not to see the skull beneath as the flesh tore away. Thick greasepaint covered the flesh, painting the features titanium white except where the other colors had gone over the first layer. Dark blue triangles replaced the clown's eyebrows and were mirrored below pale blue eyes. His aquiline nose was normal save for a single red dot the same color as his outfit, and his lips were painted into a crimson smile that was broken only by the perfect white teeth revealed when his real lips parted.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls!" The voice seemed to come not only from the clown but from the tent itself. "Welcome to the Alexander Halston Carnival of the Fantastic!"
"Hi there." He called out loudly and made sure he was heard over the noise of the crowd and the music. The people in their seats didn't notice him, but the clown posse did. Most of them just frowned, one of them actually growled in his general direction, and the one in the fancy tuxedo smiled warmly
"Well, howdy, stranger! Looks like we have a new friend, folks. A man who just couldn't resist joining us for the show!"
"Well, howdy right back, cupcake. Would you like to discuss the agenda for your show, or should we just get to the part where I kick your ass?"
The gaudy ringmaster laughed out loud and the crowd ate it up.
"You must be Jonathan Crowley, am I right?"
"Still, you can't say we didn't give you a chance to leave. I mean, I've heard a few stories about how tough you are, but do you really think you can take on all of us?"
"What? Five clowns? I've taken on six or seven clowns a few times, including once at a Ronald McDonald look-alike contest. Man, those guys get pissy when they lose out on a free Big Mac."
The clown looked at him, puzzled by the reference, and then shrugged it off.
"What's a cell phone?"
Crowley arched an eyebrow
"A cell phone, you moron. A portable phone."
"They make portable phones?" The clown seemed genuinely shocked
The clowns on the stage made varying noises of disbelief, the most eloquent of which came from Rufo himself, who said in a subdued voice, "He can't do that. That's impossible."
Dave smiled through the pain. "Yeah? So's coming back from the dead, asshole."
Rufo, apparently too distracted to really take offense, merely thumped him on the back of the head and warned him about using dirty language.
I'm finally home it's time to talk about RoseCrow/GhostRose aka the relationship between Jonathan Crowley/GhostCrow & Alice Rose/Mad Hatter. @sugarcoatedsadism ik u were interested in this so here <3
(this got SO LONG I'm sorry)
SO. where to begin.....I guess with how they met? It wasn't anything grand tbh. Every once in a while, Ozzy/Birdie hosts a "Villain Party/Meeting", where all (or, most) of the villains in the city gather so they can network & make plans on how to further terrorize the city. There was a lot of buzz this time around, as Alice (who I've mentioned as being the newest/youngest villain) is finally invited after proving she wasn't a one-hit-wonder (basically, it's been roughly a few months to a year since her debut).
Some of the villains - like Daisy Green/Thorn - Alice had already met due to a couple run-ins with them (both pre & post villainy). Still, it was nerve-wracking for her & she didn't really know who to talk to.
Enter Ghost. He didn't go to these meetings often unless specifically requested; being around crowds made him uneasy. The only reason he went was to see what all the fuss was about Alice. He had, of course, seen her work on the news. Mind Control/Brainwashing was....an interesting choice, and while he could see the use for it, Ghost wasn't sure if it would be worth it to try and gain an ally in Alice.
I'm going to speed this up along because it's already 3 paragraphs But the two of them do end up talking! It's nothing major, a short convo of Ghost welcoming Alice & telling her this isn't like those silly little cartoons she seems so fond of. That was that.
Their next meeting proved more.....productive. They were paired up during a meeting to cause a distraction while some other villains did a heist. Well, it went a little awry when the City Hero showed up & Alice ended up having to drag Ghost's bleeding body back to her apartment & nurse him back to health. Not ideal for either of them, but oh well. Because there was really nothing else to do other than read or watch tv, Ghost ended up sparking many conversations with Alice. He ended up enjoying her company by the time he was fully healed. After all, any other villain would've just left him there, a mess of blood and broken bones, waiting for the City Hero to take him to ArkBat. He chalked it up to her being naive. She'll learn soon enough that if she wanted to live as a villain, she needed to put herself first.
It was like that for a bit. The two would hang out occasionally, then often, then all the time. Ghost became Alice's "mentor", if you will. He basically showed her the ropes of the whole villainy thing. It became apparent that he was protective of her, but then again, so were most of the villains (especially Daisy/Thorn). Why wouldn't they be? Alice had, for many, integrated into their little Villain Family as a baby sister.
But that was sort of the problem. Everyone saw her as a "baby". A toddler trying to play with the Big Kids. It bugged the hell out of Alice, and she'd often confided in Ghost with this. Ghost was the only one who treated Alice as, well, Alice I suppose. I won't get into her whole backstory, but people treating her as a baby/doll/pet-figure is pretty common & a major reason she became a villain. So for Ghost to treat her like an actual adult....well, her feelings for him grew.
At first, she thought it was a stupid crush. Like, obviously. It started when she was first taking care of Ghost. Some weird Savior Complex had taken hold of her, surely. But no. It got worse, to the point where she had to recognize that, yes, she did have a crush on Ghost. Okay, fine, no big deal. It's normal to have crushes on people older than you, isn't it? Besides, all her new friends were older than her, it was bound to happen eventually. At least it was with Ghost, and not someone who'd take advantage of that little tidbit if they ever found out they were the object of her affections.
Meanwhile, Ghost was having a little trouble. He liked Alice - though, that was the problem, wasn't it? He liked her too much. He thought about her a little too often, looked at her a little too long for him to rationalize it in his mind. Fun Fact: Ghost is very bad at....feelings. Human things in general, tbh. He honestly thought that perhaps Alice had hypnotized him somehow, though quickly realized this wasn't the case after seeing her process for brainwashing victims. She wasn't capable of doing it without him noticing. Not yet, at least. (Besides, Alice had already made it clear when they started sharing a hideout that she didn't want to hurt any of her new "friends".) Still, he needs someone to talk to. Not any of the villains. A small part of him was, foolishly, afraid of what they might think. He didn't even know what to think. So, he turned to the only person he could: Lannie.
I can't explain Lannie here....there's too much to go through, but the tl;dr is that Lannie is Ghost from another dimension, talking to your alternate selves is a common thing all villains can do (minus Alice until recently). Anyway, he talks to Lannie, a Harley Alternate, & Jervis (Alice's Alternate). They help him work through his Feelings & give him the courage to confess to Alice.
I haven't really thought about how Ghost would go about confessing to Alice. Or....maybe it would make more sense for Alice to confess since she thinks he's not interested, she might just want to hear it so she can get over the crush. Either way, the two have a deep talk about their feelings & decide to be a couple. It gets mixed reviews, with a lot of people glaring at Ghost, but it was Alice's choice to date him so they're all just gonna have to die mad about it.
idk what else to say so I'm gonna end it here. hope that satisfies your curiosity, if not then I'm sure this post is proof that I can & will go write an essay on my paras unprompted.
