Miss Sloane (John Madden, 2016).
I’m not here pt 2. That is the most interesting and wonderful thing about Miss Sloane (2016). She towers over every second of the film without ever being there. She is, by her own choice, a means or a weapon or a set piece, but almost never a person. She uses herself, a narrative she builds around herself, to manipulate people. She fakes her soulless lobbyist persona as she fakes her emotional breakdowns. Her empathy and her detachment. This woman is a genius of deception and drive: it's really the only thing we know about her. And that somehow, at some point she has begun to self-destruct. That something has started to work in her that wants her life in pieces. We don’t know what it is or why. If it’s a conscious decision or a masterplan or just something unraveling on the inside. But she uses all her superhero powers of strategy and mind games to accomplish the wrecking of her own life at the moment of her greatest triumph. And we just don’t know why. Not because she does not tell us. But because she does.
MOVIE REVIEW: Miss Sloane
MOVIE REVIEW: Miss Sloane
Political Drama starring Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. When a Lobbyist in Washington changes companies so that they can get a bill passed through the American system that would impose stricter gun controls she places a big target on her back. The problem is that Miss Sloane has rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way to get to this point in her career, so there are a lot…

Miss Sloane features a great actress in a terrible movie -- a film review
Miss Sloane features a great actress in a terrible movie — a film review
EuropaCorp USA I’ve finally seen Jessica Chastain in a terrible movie. The always great actress plays a steely but tightly wound fast-talking, pill-popping con of a woman in Miss Sloane. Despite the movie’s poor direction by John Madden and an implausible script by Jonathan Perera, the essence of a wonderful actress hardly cracks under the weight of this film’s nonsense. In the face of moronic…
