Slinking through the trees, he smells the pungent odor of... teriyaki beef jerky? He kneels, covering his nose with his paws for a moment, shaking his head and rubbing his nose in the dirt to lessen the smell of the processed meat.  Only the youngster who lives on the outskirts in the forest would collect something like that.  Kai would have to bring the boy some of his mates cooking later on.  Perhaps drop it off in a container or just dump it near the tree stump he's seen the boy near. 

When he can finally smell nothing but the forest once more, he howls once, stretching into the night.  The howl isn't one of anger nor one of despair.  It's a howl to simply let the young pup know that he's watching should any help be needed or assistance given. 

It's when his teeth chew on the treats given by the strange man with the whitest teeth he's ever seen, while his fingers rip open another pack of beef jerky that he freezes. The sound of howling booms in his ears, even if it's far away, he can hear it as if someone were shouting in his ears. Deep, powerful, one clearly of a leader. He stills, blinking in confusion when he feels his body shift on its own.

As if the sound were forced out of him-- much like hiccups or burps-- the sound vibrated in his small chest before the howl of the alpha would be returned by one of the little pup. In comparison, quite pathetic, as if he were learning still. High pitched, weak, but nothing short of enthusiastic. The little one laps at his muzzle for a moment when the sound dies down and shakes his small body before his bones crack yet again.

When he is fully returned to his human form, he continues working down as much amounts of beef jerky as he possibly can.
