Rest in Peace, Jonny Z. 🤍
Thank you for believing in those rebellious dreamer boys. Thanks Jon (and Marsha) for being such important figure(s) in the Metallica History. As a fan, i deeply appreciate you and your endless love for Metallica and for everything you did for our boys since the early 80s.
You believed them
You helped them
You were a father figure
You are and always will be a huge part of their legacy.
May you and your wife Marsha rest together in peace. 🤍

Thursday, May 21: Blessed Death, “Knights of Old Bridge”
Jonny Z. kept it local when Megaforce signed Blessed Death, who in turn offered a direct tribute to the scene with “Knights of Old Bridge”. The track was a prototypical mid ‘80s thrasher that at points aimed for something more ambitious, though Larry Portelli’s snarl was straight out of the Bobby Blitz playbook. And like many thrash numbers of the era, the tune was a bit longer than it needed to be, but there was no mistaking the community vibe with the homage to the neighborhood that nurtured Overkill, Anthrax, Whiplash, Metallica and Eddie Trunk in their formative days. It ultimately wasn’t much more than that, since Blessed Death couldn’t break out of New Jersey even after signing to Roadrunner for their second album. But even on that level, “Knights of Old Bridge” was a loving ode to a scene that was every bit as significant in metal’s history as the Bay Area.
