Inktober, Day 1: Nightlance

Jonquil’s signature move, as it were. Not the type of guy whose bad side you wanna be on- unfortunately for most, whatever type of polygon he is it’s mostly bad sides.

This is a companion piece to my darling’s illustration for the first day of Inktober of this galoot’s brother, Daigh (to be found here).

The Brothers Solidago

Some doodles of an early concept I had for Jonquil Solidago. Originally I had Jonquil as a Revenant- an Anubii with supernatural strength and senses at the cost of rapidly becoming more monstrous as they are put under stress. Eventually I decided that making him a Revenant would ultimately make him too hard to warm up to, which wasn’t my goal. So instead I just made him a particularly eerie and powerful Desperado, which is really trading apples for oranges, but here we are.

Got lengthy, so below the cut!

15. How might they be ignorant or prejudiced?

Jonquil, like many other of the uhh… less fortunate-in-the-looks-department Anubii on The Road, is a bit distrustful and disdainful of humans. This is because humans, out of all the races, are in turn the most commonly distrustful and disdainful of ‘ugly’ Anubii, but prejudice mixes very poorly with Jonquil’s paranoid delusions and violent tendencies.

12. At least one thing that they tend to overreact to.

HOW LONG DO YA HAVE?

No on the real, Jonquil is uhh… a bit high-strung. Most notably, I’d say, Jonquil tends to overreact pretty severely to disrespect during or immediately after combat, when his blood is pumping already and he’s trying to reign it in.

8. What mistake(s) do they continue to make/have not learned from?

The aforementioned tendency to overreact to relatively small stuff, for one… but on a more unique note Jonquil frequently makes the mistake of ‘helping’ without first offering to do so. His unusual and sometimes outright extreme methods sometimes make things worse. Also, for reasons I won’t go too much into to avoid getting too spoilery (Yes, he will be showing up in things in the future), Jonquil is kind of… detached, and he frequently forgets that he’s a little creepy when approaching new people, which rarely leads to a good first impression. A lot of this stuff is directly tied to the fact that Jonquil is very mentally unstable… but it’s still stuff he should probably be working on, and isn’t.

17. When would they be too judgmental of someone or something?

One of Jonquil’s most prevalent and defining traits is how overwhelmingly paranoid he is. As such he tends to make snap judgements of everyone and everything, and it usually isn’t until his best (Only?) friend Hare has vetted a person that he is willing to do anything but leer from afar.
