FIRE ON 1ST FLOOR REQUIRES 2ND FLOOR RESCUE • Joplin News First was there & caught the ladder rescue LIVE! • In black smoke firemen locate adults & pets upstairs • Joplin Fire Marshall determines fire accidental (read on) (64801) — The Joplin Fire Department update us today with official information regarding the weekend fire in Murphysburg. #JoplinFire On Saturday, June 23rd, 2018 at approximately 12:04 PM, Ladder 1B, Rescue 3B, Engine 3B, Engine 4B, Battalion 1B, & Ladder 5B on second alarm responded to a report of a structure fire at 302 S. Jackson. The first crew arrived at 12:07 PM and found a two-story wood frame multi-residential structure with fire and smoke coming from a first floor apartment. Crews made an interior attack and extinguished the fire. During the course of fire attack Rescue 3B personnel made entry to perform a search and located two residents in the upstairs apartment who could not exit due to heat and smoke. Crews placed a ladder to the exterior of the residence and brought the two residents and their pets to safety. There were no injuries to civilians and one firefighter suffered a minor injury, was treated and released. The Joplin Fire Marshal has determined the fire to be accidental due to unattended cooking. On arrival crews found a residential structure with smoke coming from the roof. Crews made an interior attack and extinguished the fire above the ceiling. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire was ruled electrical in nature. "We responded to 1729 South Picher for a shooting. The female victim, Kendra Williams, 29, of that address, said she was in front of her house and heard a loud bang and was shot," according to the JPD. "She was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries." The driver should be commended for pulling out of traffic onto the empty lot just East of Community Bank & Trust. The driver reported the heater malfunctioned and then smoke and flames were visible from the vents." Joplin Fire Department brought flames under control immediately. Fire reported under control at 5:13 pm before our Joplin News First crew could make it through the light at 7th and Rangeline. METS were on stand by at the scene.
