okay this just pissed me off bc there is a major difference between 1.7 seconds and like 5 seconds at the end of a rly close game. 1.7 is a catch and shoot - 5 is a quick set for a good shot. Yes, that's is on the refs to recognize, but it is also on the Wings coaching staff to recognize and advocate for their players. Both sides need to do better.

Congratulations, Jose, you lost this game for Dallas. You had a hot player in Maddy and you only played her for 17 mins. You have a line up that clearly works and you do not use it at the end of the game. I only feel bad for Paige, Dallas deserves to lose these games.

My expectations were pretty low after Chris, but Jose is not making strides...

It’s so crazy how fast life changes. She was just at UConn a few weeks ago. Now she’s a Dallas Wing🥹. She looked so grown up at UConn but she looks so much like a baby here🥹. I hope this rookie season is everything it possibly can be for her.

Sb: Jose just keeps proving how much he already adores Azzi lol. He’s been all business since he got to Dallas. Now that the princess is there he’s all giggles lol 😹. They’re hilarious together! I love that for her!

Watching back the game right now and just noticed a few things.

I thought the ball defence was bad, no it’s actually horrible. I dont know exact stats for how many points lynx scored off their pick and roll but I assure you it was at least half.

Clip #1

Paige and Jess guarding the screen. I’m not really understanding what Dallas’s screen defence is because it looks like a contain/hedge except Jess isn’t in position for either of those. Paige makes it through the screen so I don’t understand why she fully closes Courtney out? I think she thought Courtney was shooting but shes gotta realize she doesn’t have anyone to tag her check in the corner and Maddy is way too far over to do anything.

Clip #2

Again Jess and Paige. Paige gets through fine and I do see the stunt up from Jessica which makes me think they must be trying to do a hedge of some sort plus a tag help from the other side but Jess does it so late that Olivia has already picked up her dribble to pass and her check has slipped. I understand hedging screens but you can see how sloppy this one was- and no tags from Arike and Maddy although I can understand at this level you can’t really leave someone who’s hit 4 threes.

Clip #3

Jess (again) and Arike. Honestly I can’t even tell what they are doing at this point. Jess seems to switch onto Olivia and there’s zero communication between her and Arike which leads to both them guarding Olivia and then Arike scrambles to go find Jess’s check.

I didn’t add it but there’s one clip where I believe they ran the defence properly and it’s on Azzi’s steal where Olivia falls. Jess hedges high pushing Olivia upwards and her check IS open but Awak comes over quickly to tag her. I also found a clip where it’s Maddy and Arike. It’s definitely a hedge defence but the big is coming way too high with zero help with tags. Either needs to be a full switch if they are going that high or a quick 2 stunts up then back.

Anyway these are just observations. Most of these clips are specifically from the fourth quarter, I wish I recorded the other clips but it’s pretty easy to find on YouTube.
