Mercedes is a traveling merchant who prides herself on her adaptability and contract nit-picking. After her father's death, she inherited his legacy as a notorious market gambler. Selfish and secretive, she is a woman who only shows the side she wants others to see. She enjoys teasing people and good food & alcohol. She dislikes styling her hair in the current fashions so uses the excuse that she is a “traveller/foreigner” to get out of the customary adult female updos, thus others perceive her as childish (or promiscuous). However some noblewomen find her eccentrically stylish. Magic and the nobility bore her immensely. She lacks any inherent respect for higher rank or even older common-folk. However she knows how to bring out the professional flattery and performance.
