My favorite duo in ”Ascendance of a bookworm”.
Been re-reading Ascendance of a Bookworm and yes. Benno is still one of my favourite characters~ >:D
Myne: I have a new invention
Benno:
All the things I could do If I had a little money It's a rich man's world

So I'm sure nobody cares but no one else I know watches this anime so I might as well yell it out into the void.
I wish Lutz had been adopted by Benno. I'm glad that lutz works out his relationship with his family but honestly I felt like lutz leaving his family who haven't supported him since the beginning, talk the biggest shit about merchants and didn't even know where he worked maybe aren't the best people.
They didn't know anything about him as a person and didn't really make any effort to. I feel like a storyline where he did end up as Benno's adoptive son could've been so interesting especially if they played off of the differences between Main's loving family who support her no matter what and Lutz' family who are unsupportive (at least more than the show did)
actually clarifying my thought when it comes down to it I hate his dad, I hate him so much cause if he would talk in complete sentences instead of spouting out random phrases like a seven year old is supposed to understand what he's tryna say he's a dumbass and I hate him.
I wish the previous studio for Ascendance of a Bookworm hadn't made a decent amount of the choices they did in regards to what was and wasn't cut/changed, especially since a decent amount of it wasn't choices where I'm like, "That makes sense as that wouldn't translate well to television" but instead ones that change your perception of characters
For example, some of the things Myne says aloud in the show are thoughts she has, but follows up with, "I shouldn't say that aloud" because she has more common sense than they are showing
Another is not letting her intelligence fully shine through, such as when Delia admits/brags right away that the High Bishop sent her to give Myne a hard time, Myne acknowledges from the start and later points this out to Fran and Gil that having Delia fulfill that role is better than someone who's actually good at sneaking around
Benno is another one who gets burned by this, as he regularly (in the books) does things to trick Myne in order to help teach her how to be a merchant and look out for herself and such, plus they don't address that his fiance died of the Devouring and how all of this is because he can't help but to see Myne as a bit of a daughter figure for himself (nor do they actually address why he has beef with Gustav (the Guild Master) and why that is largely Gustav being socially clumsy, AND yet still how he hinders the work they are doing when he can until forced to stop by Sylvester)
I love the show of course, but honestly I love the light novels more because they are able to take the time to flesh things out and provide more information, and in the case of all of the above plus similar instances throughout, I truly don't understand the change as it would have required very little extra work to provide those pieces and in some cases LESS work as they wouldn't have had to animate Myne talking when it was actually a thought instead
