ziggy works shifts as personal nurse in the goode house for the sick goode father. nick and she start hooking up in secret.

okay I just had a thought and I needed to get it out.
What if Joseph had still been alive during 1978? Nick isn’t the heir yet, but he is told about the pact just before camp. He still hasn’t made up his mind about whether or not he’s going to embrace it. But he goes to camp and he’s lonely and desperate and terrified and he sees Ziggy and they still bond like in canon. He wants to tell someone but he’s also scared of the consequences.
Joseph is still alive but he’s trying to be brave enough to stand up to his dad. Him and Ziggy bond like they do in canon and he expresses his doubts about becoming King of Sunnyvale. They kiss and Nick is like yeah, I can do this, I can forsake the pact and be different and then--
The massacre starts. He heard about what happened to Tommy so Nick is suspicious that something is up with his dad. He sees him when the cops come to arrest Mary, and Nick is too scared to ask but he sticks close to Ziggy just in case. He’s not sure it is the pact but he’s scared shitless about what could happen.
Nick saves Ziggy from Tommy and gets axed in the process, and then he finds her by the Hanging Tree with Cindy. And it’s then, seeing her dead body, that Nick embraces the pact so he can bring her back. He may not be the heir, but he’s desperate enough that the devil grants him his wish so Nick’s soul is corrupted. Nick also promises to get rid of Joseph. The devil loves it when there’s family drama like that.
At the end when Ziggy is revived, Joseph is there, and he’s suspicious about how the fuck that happened, but he’s there with Nick when Ziggy is on the stretcher trying to explain that the curse is real.
I just like the idea of Joseph hovering behind Nick, hand on his shoulder as Nick stares down at Ziggy and says nothing other than it was all Tommy Slater’s fault.
Joseph dies soon afterwards and since the devil is satisfied with the recent massacre Nick doesn’t have to sacrifice anyone until Ryan. So he still chooses the pact, but there’s a shit tonne of angst added as well because they were a bit closer to having it all since Nick hadn’t already jumped in bed with the devil by the time he finally reached out to her.
All of Sunnyvale gets better and better. And Shadyside doesn't. And the Goodes do it over and over, again and again.

When Nick is ten, he finds out about the heart in the heart of his town. When Nick is thirteen, he learns about the deals his family has made, and swears to never make one himself. When Nick is fifteen, his father dies.
And when Nick is sixteen, he meets Ziggy Berman, and understands how Goode men become wicked slaves.
How did the Goode father die? We know Nick and Will's father died, but how did he actually die before Nick took over the family.
And we know it was mentioned that Solomon Goode had a big family, that his wife and last child died. But was there some mention how his wife and children died too? Because, I think, Solomon Goode made a pact with the Devil after his family died. Or did he kill his own family to keep his family wealthy, prosperous, immortal in some way or another since this black magic needs any sacrifices for it to work.
We do not know how Joseph died. Only that he was still fairly young and that he was able to tell Nick about the pact before he did. It is a interesting topic, since you think he would be save from illness and accidents thanks to Satan...
Solomon's first wife and child died in childbirth before the events of the movie. He did try to get them help, but it was too late. He remarried and unknown woman and had five sons with her after he made the pact with the devil and after Sarah dies. We know it's five sons thanks to the Goode family tree in Nick's house.
