NATIVE SON TOWN HALL: STAY WOKE
On Wednesday, February 15, 2017 Native Son hosted our first Town Hall entitled Stay Woke: Black Gay Men — Our Voice and Our Power In The Age Of Trump. I moderated the conversation featuring Darnell L. Moore of mic.com and Black Lives Matter, Kamal Kamal a Black Palestinian Gay activist, Jarrett Lucas of The Stonewall Community Foundation, Richard Scott Brookshire III of the Reparations Podcast, Robert Suttle of the Sero Project. We talked about intersectionality, community organizing and mobilization, activism, self love and actualization, HIV criminalization, immigration and health care, to list a few topics that were discussed. Sponsored by Tumblr, this convening of 100 Black Gay Men and allies, was the beginning of culturally and politically charged conversations, and the opportunity for us to fellowship and connect in a safe space. Check out the Facebook Live Stream on Native Son Now.
In the words of the late editor and activist Joseph Beam: “Together we are creating and naming a new community while extending a hand to the one from which we’ve come. We are bringing into the light the lives which we have led in the shadows.”
This is the beginning of the Native Son movement where Black Gay Men live in the light! Remember to Stay Woke! EW
