while Im a huge lucaya fan(also joshaya), i just think that they would never work out because Maya would never take anything that riley likes or wants. She loves no one in this world more than Riley and it really shows. So while I know that lucas and maya would have been great together and had awesome chemistry and that Riley and lucas were pretty awkward, I know that Maya would never let Lucas pick her, she wouldn't do that to Riley, its just not her as a character. I also think the whole Maya only liking Lucas because she became Riley was bs, she just grew into a better version of her own self and genuinely liked Lucas from the start. It was also pretty apparent that lucas liked Maya more. But its also true that their group would only have worked if riley and lucas were together because riley would never have accepted the alternative and would always have been apparently bitter about it. I also think that if Lucas cant man up and actually choose between them, then he doesn't deserve Maya. Maya has extreme abandonment issues and needs someone she can trust wont leave or someone who doesn't have feelings for someone else. I wasn't happy about rucas but i know thats the only way their dynamic would have worked which makes me sometimes wish the triangle was never a thing so that they didn't ruin maya's character and also because the platonic lucaya dynamic was just as fun(even that was better than romantic rucas). I fully believe that maya gave lucas up in the end for riley and not because she didn't like him. Finally, i feel good about joshaya. I think their long game would help them to get to know each other better and help Maya have experiences outside the matthews fam. You can also see them ending up together really well because they both share a mature understanding and it shows. Its playful and mature at the same time. I think josh would be really good for Maya but there was SO much potential for lucaya. If only they didn't show everyone revolving around riley and never putting her in her place.
