Prompt for week one: Firsts
Pairing: Josh Russo/Carson Hayes
Josh can’t believe how nervous he is about this. It’s not like it’s the first time he did this. Well, it is. It may not be his first date with Carson, but it is the first time he is celebrating an anniversary with someone. He tried not to think what that means about himself. It doesn’t matter anyway. What matters is that they found each other.
It was a year almost to the day that they met. Josh had watched Carson getting inside the ambulance with an almost sense of dread, thinking that was it, another relationship ending before it began. But later that night something came over him and he drove to the hospital, hoping they would let him in to see Carson.
When he got there, Carson was by himself, looking bored out of his mind. He knocked on the door, and after seeing the smile on Carson’s face, Josh let himself in.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be disturbing you, I just wanted to see how you were doing,” Josh said.
“You’re not disturbing me at all, I’m glad to have company.” Carson smiled even more. That was doing wonders for Josh’s confidence. “My parents live out of state, and other than that it’s just me, so I’m really glad you’re here.”
“I was worried about you, wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
“I’m fine. They want to keep me overnight as a precaution, but there’s nothing wrong with me.”
“Oh, I’m glad. So you don’t mind if I keep you company for a bit?”
“I more than welcome it.”
Josh hadn’t noticed before, but Carson had a beautiful smile that lit up the room and made his heart skip a beat. It still does, after a whole year.
That night they talked for almost an hour, until the nurse came and kicked Josh out. He didn’t leave before getting Carson’s phone number and the promise of a date.
That first date was a disaster, and they had a blast. Josh admired that, a person who could still have fun when everything’s going wrong. They’re still having fun together, every day. Hopefully they’re gonna have fun tonight. And Josh hopes Carson likes his gift.
