Crucial and succinct recap of an idiosyncratic movement, as well as a rejoinder to many who would seek to label. Really happy to read this. Would look nice as a weird interactive webpage timeline with VoiceOver or a traditional video.

Missed this while on vacay last week... Nice interview with all-around good dude thruoutin.
Nice little piece by Josh about someone I'm very interested in right now, Damacha. His sample-based music is very evocative of...something. I can't quite put my finger on what yet. For some reason he reminds me a bit of another guy I like, Lee. It's music whose melody and rhythm sort of come and go at times, morphing here, evolving there, but after a while you notice your head's been nodding the whole time. Good stuff.

Hongbaos Upside Yr Head
羊鸣四海 2015 by Josh Feola on Mixcloud
Spring Fest has come a couple days early because Josh has just served up this music insider's version of a hongbao to all the good boys and girls. Spring is in this little friend's eyes!
Some notes: The new albums coming out on Maybe Mars later this year will surely make up for that last dud they just dropped. Chui Wan, Skip Skip Ben Ben, Bedstars, and Hiperson are all looking very sharp. Chui Wan sounds even weirder than before (a good thing!) Ben Ben seems to have gone back to her earlier low-fi roots with more of a polished sheen (and more cowbell!) Bedstars will urinate all over your face (in a good way!) Hiperson have been garnering so much buzz for so long that it will be hard for them live up to the hype (but they will try!)
Really like the Yang Fan track on here, as well as the fucking creepy Alpine Decline modular jawn.
Josh also links to his mixtape from last year, which is worth a listen.
Cool profile of Josh Feola, a great participant in and chronicler of the Beijing music scene, as well as others. Super nice guy, he booked Friend or Foe both times we played at D22 and helped us out anytime we went up there. I used to call him my Beijing phone book cuz I would always get numbers of people I wanted to play with from him.
Love these Culture Bureau actions. I’m prepping a piece in the same vein. It won’t be a q&a, though.
Actually, not the same vein. I'll be pontificating. A lot.
