I know that it is way early to be looking seriously at mock drafts, but that's exactly what I am doing. NHL.com's Adam Kimelman has already released his first mock draft for the 2016 offseason. As of right now, he has us with the 29th overall pick (suck it Chicago), and he has us drafting C/RW Nathan Bastian.
Very rarely do I actually agree with mock drafts, but this is one of the very few mocks that I do agree with. As much as I would love to pick up someone like Alex DeBrincat, he likely won'y be available at #29. He has had a pretty solid year, and his draft stock has increased. Bastian is a great consolation prize though.
Nathan Bastian is a mix of Val Nichushkin and Jamie Benn. He is 6'4, and weighs 207 lbs. I think that Nichushkin has a little bit more foot speed than Bastian, but Bastian uses his size more than Val does. His Jamie Benn style shows in his gameplay. He scores most of his goals from the slot, or the blue paint. With his 6'4 frame, he is able to get into the dirty areas and make plays on rebounds, or stuff pucks through goalies. In terms of defense, he's a good defender. He isn't great, but he isn't terrible either. On a Mississauga team that sees a lot of minus players, he is sitting at a -3.
.
Bastian is ranked as high as #23 by some draft sites, and he actually falls out of the 1st round on other draft sites. Right now it is looking like Bastian will be a late 1st round to early 2nd round pick. But, like I said earlier, it is too early to really get an accurate depiction on where prospects will end up in the draft. As of right now, if Bastian fell to us at 29, I wouldn't hesitate to draft him. I think that he has the potential to be an elite player in his career.

Tyler Parsons - Parsons has your typical goalie build. At 6'1, 185 lbs., he isn't a large presence in net, but he isn't small either. He could probably stand to bulk up about 15-20 lbs., but that'll come as he gets older. He is currently 18 years old, and plays for the London Knights of the OHL. He is a big reason that Martenet has such a ridiculous +/- right now. His GAA is 2.40 and his SV% is .919. He hasn't had a regular season SV% below .905 since the 2012-2013 season. While Hart may be the unanimous #1 goalie in this draft, Parsons arguably could have the largest upside. If Nill manages to trades for a late 2nd round pick, it may not be a bad pickup. Though he is ranked #6 on the North American Goalie prospect list, I see him going anywhere from the late 2nd round to early in the 3rd round.
.
Joseph Woll - Woll has a little bit of a bigger build than Parsons. He is 6'3, 196 lbs. His bigger frame is one of the intangibles that cannot be taught. Coming into this draft, Woll is a very underrated goalie prospect. A large part of that is the fact that he is only 17 years old, and isn't in a juniors league. He is currently playing for U.S. National U18 Team. He has committed to go play college hockey at Boston College next season. Like Parsons, Woll is consistently hovering above a .900 SV%. In 23 games played, his GAA is 2.13 and he has a SV% of .919. If Nill isn't willing to spend a high round pick on a goalie, I would keep an eye on Woll. He is currently the 8th ranked North American goalie, and could very well fall to the 5th round....and you all know about the Stars magic with 5th round picks.
.
Connor Ingram - Possibly the most underrated goalie in the draft is Ingram. Through 54 games this season Ingram has a SV% of .918, which is extremely solid for a goalie playing in a Canadian juniors league. He is currently playing with Kamloops of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In the WHL, he is top 5 in SV%, GAA, Wins, Shutouts, and Minutes. In a couple of those stats he is above players like Carter Hart (#1 NA Goalie), Zachary Sawchenko (#3 NA Goalie), and Evan Sarthou (#9 NA Goalie). For a fairly mediocre team, Ingram has been a rock in net for them. The fact that he is top 5 in most statistical categories and his team is 30-25-5 shows that he may not have much offense in front of him, but that he is also dominating between the pipes. If he somehow falls to the 6th round, like I am predicting, I think it would be an absolute steal. Personally, I think he is worthy of a 2nd-3rd round pick.
.
All in all, this upcoming draft is going to be a very interesting draft to keep an eye on. With Campbell likely being gone, it looks like the future of the Stars goalie rests squarely on the shoulders of Desrosiers. Lagace could always go on a tear and challenge Desro for the Stars future tender, but I wouldn't put too much hope into that one yet. I think that Moran is a bust, and will be lucky to be a career AHL guy, and I haven't been too impressed with Ruusu. He has had his struggles in some international juniors leagues. Should Desrosiers flame out, like Campbell, the Stars could be in trouble when it comes to their future. It doesn't matter how good of an offense, or defense, we have. If we don't have a goalie to stop the puck, we still won't see much success.

As always, you are more than welcome to leave your opinions, and if you have any prospects you'd like me to take a look at, just let me know.
