Professor Joshua Vikner in Elementary vs. Professor James Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

(a bit of a follow-up to this post) i figured, what the hell, i’ll make a visual comparison because they really do look alike, i think it might even be intentional. and it would be an interesting choice: making the guy who’s classically “moriarty-like”, at the very least in appearance, be moriarty’s replacement, the lesser moriarty

and i believe next episode we’ll indeed see his downfall, especially as he was so smug so far. and hopefully it will be in the form of seeing he’s not at all a match to the real moriarty. like joan said: he may have her job but it doesn’t mean he’s as good at it as she was.

one thing i feel strongly about vikner is that, in some aspects, he’s more canon-moriarty than jamie moriarty ever was. which bugs me a bit. i mean, he’s a professor! he has the look or whatever (he looks a lot like the moriarty of the guy ritchie films, does he not?), and maybe other parts of his character as well. and also, this storyline is shaping up to be huge, like, reichenbach huge. maybe? (something said in the promo for next week made me feel that even more)

and i honestly can’t help but feel that it’s weird moriarty’s not there. like i said it just bugs me that she’s not there for this important storyline, and i just want to see her or at least hear from her. but also: i feel like she’s gotta be there or be a part of it if only for how quickly, how early in the episode, sherlock wrote her off as couldn’t-possibly-be-involved (albeit after lengthy examination of the facts, off-screen)

TVLine: Elementary Casts Tony Curran as Professor With Moriarty Connection

Even without a reappearance, Natalie Dormer’s duplicitous Jamie Moriarty continues to haunt CBS’ Elementary.

Defiance vet Tony Curran will guest-star in the final two episodes of Season 4 as Joshua Vikner, an economics professor who has more than an academic interest in the villainess, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Professor Vikner has much to teach Sherlock and his father, Morland, about the past, in addition to playing a large role in their future.
