DrawABox lesson 1: Plotted & Rough Perspective
These exercises are starting to kick my butt, but that’s part of the journey.
Modified Contour Drawing of your hand” 2/2
At the beginning I didn’t want to post this one, because I was disappointed in how it turned out. While I was listening to the Andrew Price Podcast he talked about people losing motivation after failing at something and it made me reflect that the excuses that I was making of “not having time” to do art these days were just my brain trying to avoid that I get disappointed again. The good thing of all of that is that now I have better perspective of a thing that I have to improve that is my reaction when things don’t go my way and how to emotionally deal with it. Must never forget that each drawing is just a step in this “journey of a thousand miles”. Okay, enough of that, here’s my latest drawing.
Modified Contour Drawing of your hand” 1/2
I think this is the first realistic drawing I made that I can call decent and I believe it could have gone a little better, especially on defining the dark areas and highlights. Makes me happy seeing progress.
Modified Contour Drawing: First, drawing on a picture plane
Getting closer and closer in terms of seeing what I’m supposed to. When starting this one I did not understand why I had to close one eye, but it makes all the difference!
DrawABox’s Box Challenge
My first set of boxes for the DrawABox 250 box challenge. I will do another post related with it when the challenge is ✅ . There’s a lot to improve still in the perspective and the time I take on each box, but that with practice will improve. If you have any tips I’m always grateful. 🙏
Warmups
Before starting anything I like to do some warmups. These are examples of some of the ones I do. . They are exercises from the Lesson 1 section of DrawABox, that focus mostly on doing confident lines. It was something I had problem at first, but little by little is getting better.
#2 Upside Down Drawing
In the book they recommend doing 1-2 more drawings upside down, so here it is! The reference comes from one of the pages of the book. It gave me an extra challenge this one, since I have almost no knowledge of shading, but was a fun experience experimenting it.
Upside Down Drawing
Hey everybody, long time no see! I have been very busy after completing DAB Lesson 1, so I haven’t been posting much. . While making boxes for the DAB 250 Challenge I will use the 50/50 rule on a book called “The New Drawing on The Right Side of the Brain” that teaches how to see things as they really are, like how an artist sees a face when drawing it and not “symbols”. The Before & After I will post after completing the book will give a better explanation. . This is the first exercise that focus on ignoring symbol drawing, it consists in drawing Picasso’s portrait of Igor Stravinsky upside down, it helps in focusing only on making the lines that I see and not what they symbolize...
