When finding the position of an object at a point in time, that position will change at different times. That change is called "Velocity". A fancy way of saying that is by calling it the "slope of the position vs time graph".

Many have heard of velocity. It's a very common term.

Sometimes that velocity will change over time as well. A change in velocity is called acceleration. To find acceleration, you can find the slope of the velocity vs time graph, or the derivative of the position over time graph (essentially a graph of the value of velocity at different points in time).

Acceleration is also a very common term. And it makes sense at this point. Velocity is a change in position over time, and acceleration is a change in velocity over time.

But there's more.

A change in acceleration over time is called jerk. Okay, not terrible, can understand why something would be changing its acceleration over time.

But then there's even more.

A change in jerk is called...Snap. Or alternatively, jounce.

Don't know why you'd ever need to graph the change in jerk over time, but sure, I guess there's probably some obscure thing out there that experiences that.

But there's still more.

A change in Snap is called...Crackle. Some of you who have seen 2000-2010 TV ads for cereal might know where this is going.

A change in Crackle, is called...Pop.

A change in position is called velocity. A change in velocity is called acceleration. A change in acceleration is called jerk. A change in jerk is called snap. A change in snap is called crackle. A change in crackle is called pop.

The 4th, 5th, and 6th derivatives of position, are a reference to Rice Krispy Cereal.
