It bugs me that "adult" media as a term is a synonym for "sex" media
like
I promise there is so much more going on there (in stuff that adults do) that is infinitely more present in their lives & more interesting than sex
the massive lists of "how to adult" that float around tumblr sometimes and are giving "adult life advice" prove this alone I think
like of all the stuff that gives OtY transage folks dysphoria/dissociation, sex seems to be wildly low on that list compared to like. driving. or doing the less-obvious housework like cleaning your dishwasher itself of its hard water buildup. or knowing the ins-and-outs of a particular legal system so that you can navigate it.
and visa-versa for stuff that tends to give YtO transage folks euphoria. not really the sex stuff as much but definitely the "adult guide" stuff.
so like can't we just call the "sex media" sex media, or erotica, or porn, or whatever. all the truly descriptive and specific terms for it that already exist
and the adult media can be like
the "children's cartoons" equivalent of watching someone be really good at being an adult, so that adults can feel inspired to get their life together all adult-y or whatever —like the opposite of a drama like Sex in the City. just. folks being really well adjusted and it's incredible like "wow maybe I could do that if I got on ADHD meds, too"
like how animal crossing is a massive relieving fantasy for folks cause they get to actually own a house with a completely interest free mortgage from a housing company guy who basically runs a charity and hates his capitalistic rivals and you're never in any debt that matters
Literally no one:
My poor dashboard just being the messenger:
Me: STOP GIVING GIRLS BOOBS /SCREAMING/
#please please please JUST ANY bilateral mastectomy levels of flatness on women ever. Do it for me so that I have any representation for what my body looks like now; do it for making society better for the people who think their body is ruined post-cancer because they didn’t electively decide it for themselves like I enthusiastically did; do it for anyone, please please please
Sometimes this just integer overflows out of how it usually only bothers me in the background—
Oh I didn’t even think about it, but having my keyboard be bluetooth is really nice — because then I can do things like . . . be sitting on the bed with my tablet just held in my hands . . . but still have the keyboard beside me and type things in if I need to.
I also do not require a screen at all in order to type, I can type perfectly comfortable with just the keyboard visible and my tablet out of my visual range on the bed (if I need to correct a typo I look at the screen, but I can always tell immediately if I HAVE made a typo).
The words on the screen are an important external memory, but . . . I suppose I’ve been typing on keyboards for my entire life so they are just a sensible input method for me! Actually I think my typing speed is slower if I AM looking at the screen, since I’m waiting for the visual feednback before doing anything else . . . not the case if I am only looking at the keyboard.
My blogfront is currently just a massive swath of “different things about me or that I do” instead of being concentrated on a specific topic, and I really like that
It’s like “oh yeah! I do all of these things. I’m just me. I’m just chillin’ here. This blog is my diary did you know that?”
Haven’t talked about my Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar game for a while though . . . I haven't played in a few days I KEEP MEANING TO
A few days ago a brand new content patch was added, that is feature unlocked right after City Bazaar Rank (rank 4) which I just got to!! super exciting! (oh but the MOST exciting part is that Penny is on the feature page so I’m pretty sure she manages it. I love Penny. She’s great.)
It’s basically like “Nook Miles Quests” but for a farming game instead of for Animal Crossing. But little task quests like that always work really well for life sim games where you gotta create your own goals from ground zero most of the time to keep having fun with playing.
For now though, I really should out to go walk to the store to pick up groceries and the backpack them back to the apartment . . .
and probably sing on the way there/back,
I haven’t actually sung much recently for some reason . . .
probably cause I’ve barely gone on any solo walks since being in the hospital?
I made a really big improvement to my “beside” space on the side of the bed today!
My CPAP machine needed to be moved, so that my roommate and I can start running the heater** in the bedroom.
**The heater in the bedroom is mounted low to the floor on the wall. It’s really not in a great position — there is no way to lay out the furniture that needs to be in the room that doesn’t partially obscure the heater. The bed was at least pulled out a full foot or so away from it so it wasn’t a fire hazard . . . but the heat still always had difficulty getting around the room AND the sensor for what temperature it is in the room is nowhere near the actual heater? so it’s really just a bad setup all around.
There is an outlet near the heater, but the heater has caused issues in the past with melting the charging ports of electronics. We’re not entirely sure if it’s “the outlet itself has gotten damaged” or if it’s just when the heater is on . . . so ultimately, that side of the bed hasn’t been able to be a proper “bedside hub” for anyone for a long time.
Originally I thought I’d have to swap sides of the bed entirely . . . which would have not worked well. I’m very partial to my particular bedside table that can be immediately against the bed while also being low enough that I don’t risk headbutting it . . . and the way I USE my bedside table is very partial to being positioned directly against a wall. But I was worried about condensation inside of the CPAP tubing, which is usually solved by keeping the machine much lower than the sleeper.
Luckily I found out that my machine’s tubes are heated, which prevents condensation from pooling! So I can actually position it fairly close in elevation to myself just fine.
So I put my CPAP on the table, and that worked out fine — but it was pretty tight-for-space, and I couldn’t fit my Little Guy on there (a pale pastel yellow/blue/pink/white jellyfish figurine lamp, where the light inside is a colour-shifting bulb).
My bedside table is the type of oval table where it can either have the rectangle center leaflet only, and the “side” half-oval extensions drooping over the edges . . . OR it can be rotated so that the side extensions are outward, and the table is a lot bigger.
So my roommate and I moved the bed out further away from the wall — I’m not sure HOW far out it is now, but it’s enough that the area underneath my table is MUCH better lit than before, and I can comfortably sit on the floor down there in order to handle stuff that’s on the floor underneath the table — and now I have the “full” table’s worth of size!
Which is incredibly nice. I now have my CPAP machine on the table, my sleeping [bonnet/eyemask/mouth tape], everything else that was on the table before, my Little Guy,
but ALSO I can now actually fit all my stuff over there!! so now my glasses case is also over there, and my waist leaf bag that I keep my phone & other stuff in is over there.
I also plugged an adapter into the wall, so that the adapter can protect any electronics that get plugged in over there from any outlet weirdness . . . and the socket part of the adapter is tucked around the legs of the table so that the actual plugs are reasonably far enough from the heat.
This wasn’t the case before, because the side-leaflets of the bedside table completely obscured the outlet. Which . . . wasn’t a huge issue at first since nothing can be plugged directly into it without having Possible Issues Anyway . . . but I eventually became curious about if an adapter could work okay. Alas, my table was more important.
So now I actually have my electronics plugged in on my side of the bed!
All in all, everything being closer to where I actually am when I get out of the bed — instead of me being frustrated that “I can’t see anything and everything is over there” — and it being much EASIER to get out of the bed since there’s a genuine little walkway on that side now . . . will make getting up a lot easier. I can probably even, like, put some house clothes to change into on the table to get dressed in while I’m still sitting on my side of the bed, instead of having to awkwardly crawl to the end.
The heat will also have more room to not get trapped in, yay! Maybe. Hopefully.
My new keyboard came in and it’s very nice!!
It’s much more sleek and functionable than my old one, and is a light sand colour rather than a bleak plain electronic black. It’s much more “me”.
Being able to type on a keyboard whilst my tablet is in portrait mode is a new experience. I’ll probably try to keep it in portrait mode while I get accustomed to the new keyboard, since that is part of the “new” multiplier and it’s important that I adapt to it as a new keyboard . . .
since it is slightly larger than my old keyboard — if I overlay my old keyboard onto the new one, I can still see the “delete”, “|”, “return”, “shift” keys.
I also naturally want to rest on homerow which !sounds! good, but I actually rest my right index finger on ‘K’ usually, not ‘J’. So if I end up starting on home row, everything I type with my right hand is one-over by mistake. (It does make for a more comfortable typing experience in general, though — the extra space.)
The keys are also risen a TINY bit (instead of being in a “sewn in” flushness to the board) which is nice — feels more responsive & less typo-y and quicker in general.
There are also function keys! Unfortunately they are not proper mac function keys — I can’t press the key in F5’s position and refresh the page, for instance (even when holding down “cmd” or “fn” or “control” or “option” , I did try all of them just in case I was remembering wrong for some reason)
—but it’s still nice having a keyboard key for going to my home menu; or for opening up my “open application” menu;
instead of having to reach forward and press a button on the tablet itself for just that purpose, while otherwise using the keyboard.
I do keep accidentally hitting the “power” key instead of the “delete” key when I want to back-space something — but luckily that button only does something when it is held down for 3 seconds.
Really excited that the stand is large enough that I can theoretically have my phone screen and my tablet screen side-by-side for “two monitor” referential — it’s uncommon, but it definitely happens once or twice a week that I’m typing a journal whilst referencing my phone screen for something.
Also, wow being able to see “taller” is going to be wonderful for reading comics . . and also for writing journals. I can see much more of what I’ve typed up all at the same time.
Functions of my electronics, having more of them!
The little book light that I got slides perfectly and snugly onto the stand, too! Generally I think I will prefer to use the larger clip light that I got — since that lights up the “entire work area” and not just the keyboard/space around the laptop (for lesser light contrast immediately in my field of vision) — but that light is charging right now and it makes me happy to know the clip on light has multiple uses that are not just books :3
