Some very early stage special outlines in Teeline! I know I'm doing drilling wrong, there's a paragraph on how to drill in the textbook but I'm not sure it applies at this stage - any advice appreciated!

So I’m a journalism student at Centennial College who just so happens to love sports, hockey in particular.

For this semester, my Reporting Two professor was trying to arrange for the class to attend an event in which a speaker (in my case speakers) would talk about something. By some miracle, she managed to get us a spot at the Empire club, where Elliot Friedman (Sportsnet) would lead the General Manager of the Toronto Raptors, Bobby Webster and Leafs GM, Kyle Dubas in a discussion about how big data is changing professional sports.

My initial thought was about how cool this event was going to be, but I thought that the students would just listen and have to leave right after. I also didn’t know that lunch would be included, which was a bonus considering they accommodated vegetarians such as myself.

After lunch and the discussion, which was both informative and interesting, my friend Jayson and I decided to try and see if we could possibly get the opportunity to meet Elliot Friedman and ask about his experience with getting into sports journalism. Jayson was super excited and really wanted to talk to Webster because he’s such a big Raptors fan. I’m more of a Leafs fan, but I thought I’d be too shy to approach Dubas and talk to him.

Fortunately for me, I was also a little hyped off of the coffee I had bought before the conference and was feeling a little braver than normal, so I waited to talk to Dubas.

Anywho, I got the chance to meet and talk to Kyle Dubas as well as get a picture with him (credit to Jayson for taking the pic) and I was a little dazed after and I’m pretty sure the mix of caffeine and nerves were what caused me to shake so much. Dubas is a really cool guy and super easy to talk to. I also asked him to say hi to William Nylander for me, because why not.

After I did that, Jayson took me over to talk to Bobby Webster. I didn’t have quite as much to say, but Jay got an interview for an upcoming assignment.

Most of the journalism students that stuck around waited a while so we could all talk to Friedman and ask him some question about the journalism world.

He was super nice about everything and encouraged us all to do a video, podcast or blog to get our foot in the door. He said that any volunteering that could be done in media would help to establish ourselves as journalist.

My favourite thing he mentioned was that the right people are always watching, so make things count.

Shorthand and bookshops yesterday. Hatchards was beautiful and the pastry yummy, so I guess my exploration of London isn't going too badly

Gotta love it when you and a classmate discover you bought different textbooks and therefore one of you is wrong, so the conversation just turns to "fuck" "oh fuck" "fuck SAKE" "fuck"
