hello! i know i'm years late, but i have a [possible silly] question about your journey tutorial: is the glyph pdf supposed to be printed on regular 8.5 x 11 paper, or does it need to be tiled to a different size? if i tile it to 100% in adobe, it says that it will print to 25.5 x 44 on 12 pieces of paper. does that sound close, or should i aim for 24 x 36 like the pattern pdf? thanks so much for your tutorial and your help!

Don’t worry, I log in about weekly to answer questions! The glyph file is supposed to be tiled mostly because of the layout on the side (and it should be 24 x 36), but the glyphs themselves can fit on 8.5 x 11 if you want to arrange them in Illustrator or Photoshop.

Hi! I'm using your Journey cosplay tutorial and I'm having trouble with the glyphs. The glyph templates don't match up with the glyph reference "shadows" on the triangle template. They're much smaller than their corresponding "shadows." Did anyone else have this problem or did I just mess up my printing? My computer likes to resize things to fit the paper but I tried to be very careful about that when I printed everything.

Oh! Looks like I resized the glyphs on the “Glyph File” to be smaller but did not reflect that change on the “Pattern File,” I had changed them to be smaller since mine were too big in proportion to the rest of the costume. There’s a layout guide on the “Glyph” file, that has a lineup with the dark triangles and is more accurate than the other black and white version. Sorry about that! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Hi again, sorry to bug you with another question, but I was having a hard time figuring something out for the Journey cloak based on your tutorial. Is it supposed to be cut on the fold so that you essentially wind up with a giant donut shape (laid flat)? Or do you have a kind of front/back semicircle that are seamed together along the part where your shoulders/arms are?

No problem! It’s supposed to be cut on the fold in the back seam, not the top seam (although some people have made donuts, but that would give you a poncho that might be too full and not fall into a triangle silhouette). There should be no seams, the end of the piece should be the part in the middle of your body. Hope that makes sense!

Hey there! I'm sure you're sick of getting asks about this by now, but I had a question about your Journey costume (thanks for making such a nice tutorial btw). Do you have any more specific recommendations for fabric? I'm not really sure what a "stiff but not really bottomweight" would be. Like a kona cotton? Thanks in advance! :D

Nah, I’m always happy to answer questions. I’m not an expert on fabrics, but basically a bottomweight is like for pants and skirts and they’re heavier, like there’s weights at the bottom. It doesn’t stiffen out into a triangleish shape. Kona cottom might be too thin, but definitely just pull a few yards off and drape it to see how it is! Most people use linen which has good stiffness to it.

Hi! Sorry to bug you about the journey cosplay but I'm trying to make the hood but I don't really know how big it needs to be. Sorry if you already answered this!

The patterns are sized as close to real life as I can estimate (about 22 inches wide), so if you print them 100%, they should be able to fit you, please note that the face hole is small on purpose so that you can cut as big of a hole as you need (too big of a hole and it’ll be harder to adjust).For the pattern pieces, definitely err on the side of cutting bigger if you want, it’s much easier to adjust, and test it on scrap fabric first! Once you adjust that you can use those adjusted scrap pieces to cut out your hood on your actual fabric.

Hey! I'm sure you get plenty of questions about your Journey tutorial so I hope mine doesn't annoy you! The mask instructions were hard to follow(mostly because this will be my first cosplay) do you have any easier ways of making the mask? ^_^

No problem! I’m sorry that this answer is coming late. Some people actually make the mask out of fabric and attach it to the hood, you can also take worbla or EVA foam, take the bottom of a bowl or a ball, and melt it over the shape so it takes on that shape (trimming off the excess). Hope those alternatives work!

on your journey cosplay, did you use 44 or 50 in wide fabric for the main body?

Hello! I'm working on a journey cosplay, and I found your tutorial online. I'm just wondering how much heat n bond you used since the tutorial said 'a fucktone'. I need to order it online so I'd like to know how much I should get :3

Sorry for the delay! And haha, I'm sorry for the very unspecific unit of measure. I remember using at least 2 large rolls of heat and bond, it depends on how many glyphs you do! I always like to keep a lot around because I use it far too much. Hope that helps!
