i made a jousting shield for my kit!!
3 days' work, 10mm plywood, covered in linen canvas and gesso, painted in acrylic, leather straps and brass hardware
soon i will take and post pics in (almost) full kit too :3
keep reading for process pics!
in the beginning i (without any understanding of woodbending) didn't want to build a jig and whatever, so i tried to curve a whole 10mm plywood board by soaking it in hot water and doing whatever this was which just resulted in a slightly deformed board
so after that i decided i in fact needed to build a jig and used two 5mm planks and glued them together before forming it and clamping it up for a full day (thank god my grandpa had extra clamps)
that worked, so i drew my shield shape and slowly sawed it out. i didnt put enough glue in the middle so i stuck some in and clamped it for a few more hours to let it set.
after that i glued the linen on and nailed in the leather straps (that i had previously from abandoned projects)
then it got covered in gesso and left to dry overnight, i sketched the boar too but i felt it was too small so i redrew it this morning
last bit of painting!! and the result is the pics at the beginning of the post :D thank you for reading this far!
