“ what’s holding you back in life ?” from lukita

It’s a strange question to ask a man like him. People in his profession lived their lives differently than others did. Everything about the way he did required restraint. And then multiply that a hundred-fold considering the truth of who he was. The question is an uncomfortable confrontation with reality. Would he live this life if he didn’t have to? But he must. “I reject the premise of your question,” he mused, downing a shot without thinking about it. “I hold myself back. That’s what duty is.” He chose this. He chose it over and over, every day when he woke up and when he went to sleep. “We are not all meant for ambition.” A pause. “Or happiness.”
