Only Murders in the Building ━ 3x04 "The White Room"
GOD I hope Joy is out of the picture forever now. I cannot even fathom reasoning on the writers' parts to have Charles continue to be with a woman who degrades him, ignores his concerns and has the fucking audacity to call him a hypocrite when she KNOWS his last gf drugged him and tried to kill him and his friends??? HUH??? I really hope they're leaning towards an arc where Charles is able to embrace there's nothing "wrong" with him like Oliver said. I'd like to trust the writers on this, considering alllll we've been given of Joy this season is red flags, but I hated how the convo with Sazz went more in a "you're just insecure :)" direction. hMmNgg-
Episode 4 is easily my favorite episode of the season so far. It makes such a difference for the trio to be together + I enjoyed spending time with Cinda. Oh what familiar characters and relationships can do for my happiness.
Other thoughts:
He isn’t my favorite for the role, but Howard’s behavior this episode is making me like him more for the moriarty/mastermind role that John Hoffman has talked about (him and Oliver having a ‘layered relationship’ wherein he doesn't hand over the keys when he doesn't want to even though he works for Oliver, him being ‘the eyes and ears of this production,’ the lying.)
‘Like a sweater… unraveling.’
Okay, my hope for the Joy/Charles stuff is that he ends the season realizing he doesn’t want a (heteronormative) romantic relationship and what actually makes him happy is his found family with Oliver and Mabel and Lucy. However, now might be a good time to mention that I think Lucy might be getting Oscer’d. (A review said she isn’t in the first eight episodes.)
Oh! Kimber’s line about Ben looking like a 50 year old baby feels meaningful when in the play everyone’s meant to think a baby did it. It's a point to the theory that Ben faked his own death when he collapsed on stage.
I think this is the first time Mabel's worn white and not gotten blood on her.
Maybe Tom (piano guy) did it. I say this solely because of the lack of focus on him.
3x09 liveblog (the nostalgia! the whores! the cinematography! Were the twists too obvious or do I simply deserve a good grade in mystery television viewing?):
Mabel’s white room is a lot odder then Charles’ white room.
TRIPLETS.
Yeah, no, I agree. They’re really breezing past that heart attack.
(Although I do sort of appreciate the gray space they left; good for fics.)
They’re back 🥲
And now it’s the trio standing on the edge of the roof in the intro.
The mystery of the wedding dress!
I just need a moment to process Charles’ comment about Joy's childhood dog.
This scene of them on the couch questioning Dickie is so nostalgic.
Ben’s five weed smoking girlfriends.
I love Ben’s whores.❤️
I really like the style of this whole timeline scene.
See, yeah, that does make his behavior in the moment more sympathetic. But at the same time, you reap what you sew, dude, which you should know, being a sewist. He was just generally a dick, and so far his only redeeming quality is that he was suffering, as apposed to, say, Bunny who really cared about the Arconia and it's residents, or Tim who’d been working for years to bring down the Dimases. Hankies just don't hit the same for me.
Oh, and it makes sense now that the dress had to look like it was made in the 50s, because it was Joy’s mother’s dress.
“I still have no place to live.” Well, you could just stay right where you’re at, Mabel.
Awwww.
The producers… saw that one coming. (It could still turn out not to be, but) my question is, was it just the producers or were there additional killer(s)? I think there's at least one more killer. (We still don't know what Tobert's probably hiding, and it would be unsatisfying for them to frame him as suspicious only for it to be literally nothing.)
It took them six episodes to figure out what so many people guessed immediately.
Paul Rudd genuinely giving the performance of his life with that cookie.
This feels the same (similar camera work) to the scene with Donna and Loretta in the bathroom.
Donna does make a pretty good villain.
The dress! This is how the dress happens!
Not a bad life at all <3
OMITB 3x05 liveblogging:
Joy puts her fish in solitary confinement. Red flag.
SAZZ!
Can Sazz please steal Joy away from Charles.
Scott Bakula callback.
“Okay, talk to mama.”
Tobert gets Mabel to go on date with him under false pretenses. Red flag.
See, Sazz is my personal favorite for the mastermind/moriarty role. When she shows up, she’s always bringing people around to her viewpoint, manipulating things. Also, it would be fun if she were Charles' 'evil twin.'
SHE’s DATING JAN!!
… I was hoping Loretta knew a good dentist but okay.
If Loretta isn’t lying about being at that party, then this is another example of Oliver’s face blindness.
Loretta calling Ben a fucking pig and then mentioning his ‘kind hearted brother’ out of nowhere… she’s totally Dickie’s mom.
“You’re so cute when you theorize” = 'you’re so cute when you’re doing your job'… red flag.
Brazzos! So Charles' line ‘be smart, stay away from her’ was about Loretta.
Loretta keeping all those scraps of articles about Ben because Dickie is in the background… : (
Considering I'm pretty sure I know what the twist (^) will be, I'm hoping they don't draw it out too long.
I wonder if Dr. C could be connected to the sleazy therapist from the Arconia in some way.
In 3x01 olimabel talk about someone named Ron, who sent Joy’s brother vulgar placemats (???). In 2x07 you can see three names other then his dad in Theo’s recent calls, one of which is Ron Adams. I do think it’s probably a coincidence, but when I tried to type coincidence it autocorrected to conspiracy and with this show you really do never know until you know.
I'm so fr rn if you are defending Joy's actions last episode we cannot be friends 💀💀💀
if i’ve said it before i’ll say it 29394947 times. i really don’t care at all for joy’s characterisation of charles’ “flaws” because to me that old man is clearly autistic or neurodivergent in some way. she basically admitted to knowing him for 30 years and in all that time was waiting for him to change traits about himself that are clearly a part of who he is
