“I have to carry on my mom’s legacy.” Told through a mix of memories and dramatic moments, TV One’s ‘Bobbi Kristina’ movie offers an intimate look at the life and tragic death, highs and lows of parental, familial and romantic love complicated by fame through the eyes of a sensitive, vulnerable young woman, the daughter of pop music royalty whose whole story has never been told.

NY Film Academy MFA Graduate Joy Rovaris
New York Film Academy MFA Acting alum Joy Rovaris has been busy since her graduation in June from NY Film Academy's Los Angeles campus. Joy scored a role on the season premiere of recently relaunched series America’s Most Wanted. In addition, Joy has worked on commercials for MTV2 and mtvU, and comments that her most recent project was a PSA “about human trafficking, raising awareness about prostitution.” Of her experience on the set, Joy says, “It was awesome! They were so amazing. They treated me like royalty. I got my own trailer and everything!”

Joy credits New York Film Academy with giving her the education she needed to start her career. “I went to New York for my first year and L.A. for my second year. They were very different experiences, both very critical for learning. New York was very theatrical. It was all about learning the tools. L.A. was more about the business and how to make it in the industry: how to get the audition, how to get the call back, how to work with everyone involved. I wouldn’t have been equipped if I had one without the other.”

Joy is in discussions to sign with a talent manager in the new year. She will also be returning to New York Film Academy to work on a project with Oscar-winning actor (and NYFA faculty member) Louis Gossett Jr. on a film project. “Auditioning for him felt like a little bit of magic for me,” says Rovaris. “I performed a monologue and he was so into my work that by the time I finished, it felt almost as if he were in the scene with me. He felt my character’s emotions and took them as his own. My character was crying and his eyes were watering. Moved me so much! We thanked each other for the 3 minutes of another realm and I’ve been beyond excited to work with him since!”
