Notes: A little bit of a drabble. I managed to make this very angsty so be warned.

Sitting down in front of your best friend, Sooyoung, at the local cafeteria, was always the best moment of the week. It always felt like home, and also like you were seeing her for the first time. She was so beautiful. You were taken aback every time you saw her, but especially right now, during the winter, when she’d cozy up inside a big fuzzy jacket, wearing a stylish hat and trying her best to hide from the cold. She was wearing pink gloves today, that held a hot cup of coffee next to her face so her nose would warm up from the steam. She was the cutest thing you’d ever seen.
It was a shame she’d never know how you felt.
“So, anything new?” She said, and took a sip of her drink. “How are you?”
“Oh, nothing much. I got that new job. University is still kicking my ass. The usual.” You tried to sound casual, hoping she wouldn’t ask you the fatal question.
“How’s Steven?” Well, there it was. You sighed deeply.
“Steven and I broke up.”
“Why?”
“He ate too much soup.” You took a very long sip of coffee, knowing damn well your excuse sucked. Sooyung frowned.
“What, like every day?”
“It happened twice.”
“Y/N…” You could hear a little bit of disappointment in her voice. Or, not exactly disappointment — more like a mixture of confusion and being done with your pattern of breaking up with people for stupid reasons. “That’s not the real reason, is it? You didn’t just break up with someone who hit on you for over a year and bought you a bunch of expensive gifts over soup.” Sooyoung was now getting frustrated for real with you, but you couldn’t do anything about it. What would you tell her? The truth?
“It was spinach soup. I hate spinach. I can’t be with someone who eats spinach soup for a meal.” Would you tell her that it seemed dumb to date around when really, you could only ever think of her?
“C’mon, you were with him for like, a month.” Would you tell her that you kept bouncing from bed to bed because you could never truly love someone that wasn’t her?
“I mean, what do you want to hear? He was stupid and I was done with him. Point blank.” Could you ever bring yourself to tell her that when she kissed you as a joke at a party all those years ago, while you were both drunk, you felt butterflies in your stomach and they never really left?
“Before Steven, it was John. And there was Bob. And Jack. And whoever the tall guy was. And I can’t remember who came before him.” Would you tell her that you always hoped this sinking feeling in your heart wasn’t something you felt alone?
“What’s your point? That I’m a whore?” Could you, at some point, bring yourself to tell her that the only reason you hadn’t confessed to her was because it was better to have these bits and pieces of her friendship than have nothing at all?
“No! You know I’d never say that.” Could you really risk losing your best friend, and the woman you loved, by telling her the truth?
“Then what are you saying?” Would you ever be able to tell her that you need space to move on, because being in her presence made your heart and everyone look pathetic in comparison?
“Just that, maybe, there’s something you’re not telling me. I’m your best friend, come on. You can tell me anything.” Could you really ever look at her perfect face, and her perfect body, and her perfect laugh, and her perfect personality, and her perfect everything, and risk never seeing her again because, like Icarus, you wanted to get closer to the sun than your faulty wings could take you?
“It’s nothing. Just drop it.” Maybe one day, you’d convince yourself to do it. But not today.
“Okay. I’m sorry I asked.” And although she sounded annoyed, you still felt lucky to even know her.
Request: Joy goes on a walk with her dog. Her puppy escapes her and Joy searches for him. She finds Haetnim in the arms of a very pretty girl (the reader) and falls in love with her at first sight. Panicked baby gay Joy tries to get her number with a pick up line. A lot of fluff basically.

It was a beautiful spring afternoon. It was warm, birds were chirping, and the rays of the setting sun were beautifully playing between the leaves of the trees. Joy was content, closing her eyes for a while and walking dreamily through the park. When she turned around, however, to see what Haetnim was doing, the peace was over.
Her cute puppy was nowhere to be found.
Panicked she looked all around her and started yelling his name, but he didn’t come running as usual. Fear began creeping up inside of Joy. What if someone stole him or even worse, if he ran into a car. She started running around in the park, constantly yelling his name. But there was no trace of him. She rotated around her own axis, letting her gaze wander over the park, running her fingers through her hair in desperation.
Suddenly, she could make out a figure in the distance with something white in its arms. Immediately her feet started to carry her into this direction and when she saw that it was actually Haetnim in the arms of the stranger, she started running. Shortly before she reached her destiny, the person let Haetnim down on the ground, so they could meet halfway. Joy was so happy to have her puppy back that she totally forgot about the stranger, being completely focused on her dog,
“Oh my god, don’t ever scare me like this again.”
She said to Haetnim, kissing his head softly.
“I think he was as scared as you were.”
Your voice suddenly ripped her out of her excitement, and she remembered that she hadn’t even thanked her hero. She got to her feet, ready to promise you the world for finding her puppy.
“I can’t even...”
But her words got stuck in her throat once she met your eyes. You were smiling widely at her, endeared that Haetnim apparently had a really loving owner. Joy had never seen someone so beautiful before. The sun light hit your figure perfectly from behind, making it seem like you were glowing. But she was sure that you could probably even light up the dark, because your eyes were shining so brightly. Joy only realized that she had already been staring at you for quite a few seconds when you sheepishly turned your gaze to the floor.
“Um...”
Joy cleared her throat, trying to gain her composure again.
“Thank you for bringing my dog back to me.”
She said sincerely, because she really was extremely grateful.
“Oh no problem at all. I am happy that I was able to help.”
You answered, making her heart flutter even more. Cute and humble, she thought.
The both of you were standing there in awkward silence, because Joy was staring at you again, forgetting every word she had ever learned.
“Well, I guess I’m gonna leave then...”
You broke the silence after a while, dorkily gesturing to an indefinite direction with a small smile.
Joy’s eyes widened. Leave? You couldn’t leave now! She didn’t even know your name.
“Joy!”
She blurted out and you looked at her in confusion.
“That’s my name. Joy.”
She added more silently now, completely aware that she was acting absolutely weird right now. Her blushing made you giggle, but you extended your hand to her,
“Nice to meet you, Joy. I’m Y/N.”
You flashed her a smile and Joy was so mesmerized that she almost forgot to take your hand. But this time she caught herself in time, shaking your hand and lingering there maybe a little while longer than necessary.
When she pulled back, you both started to blush.
“So...um...do you like dogs?”
Joy was cursing herself right now. Do you like dogs? What question was that? But she just couldn’t think of anything else to start a conversation, her thoughts being too occupied by you.
“Yes, I love them!”
You answered excitedly, but then silence fell between the two of you again.
“So it really made my day to have met you, Joy. But I think, I’m going to head home now.”
You said with a small smile, giving her a wave and starting to walk backwards.
Oh no, she was not meeting a cute, polite and pretty girl for once and then letting the chance to get to know her pass.
“Y/N.”
She called your name, buying her time to think about anything to say.
“I think there is something wrong with my phone.”
She suddenly blurted out and you were taking a few steps back to her.
“What?”
You asked in confusion, not knowing if she wanted to borrow your phone now or why she was telling you this.
“There is something wrong with my phone, because it doesn’t have your number in it.”
As soon as the sentence left Joy’s mouth, she was facepalming herself internally. She didn’t know what had gotten into her. Wendy and she had competed in a contest of the worst pickup lines a few nights back and this was the only one that she remembered. You were just blankly staring at her, before you suddenly started laughing. Joy started to blush profoundly, looking to the floor until your laughter had died down.
“I...I’m really sorry. I don’t know what that was.”
She stuttered out too embarrassed to look at you.
Suddenly, however, a phone came into her sight and her eyes snapped up to look into yours.
“Well you can give me your number and then we can work on fixing the problem with your phone.”
You said with a smirk and Joy was absolutely speechless again. Wordlessly she put her number into your phone and gave it back to you.
“I called you, so now you have my number, too. I think your phone should work just fine now.”
Joy couldn’t believe that you actually considered going out with a dork like her. But your bright smile told another story.
“Can I see you again?”
Joy asked like in trance while staring into your eyes again.
“I hope so! Just text me when and where and I’ll be there.”
You exclaimed happily, giving her a kiss on her cheek, before turning around and making your own way with a last wave in her direction.
Joy was glued to the spot for another moment, before Haetnim suddenly started barking, fed up from standing around the whole time. A smile made its way to Joy’s face, when her brain finally decided to work again, and she realized that she had just gotten the number of the cutest girl in the world.
She crouched down to Haetnim, while laughing,
“You are the best boy, Haetnim! You’re going to get everything you want today.”
She praised her puppy, while ruffling his fur and already dreaming about the day, she would see you again.

Irene/Joohyun:
Joohyun is the type of friend to link arms with you while walking down the street. To go shopping with you and drag you to all the small boutiques and try on everything interesting looking. She is 10/10 your mom friend and loves taking care of you and making sure you’re okay. That being said, she loves taking care of you so much that she forgets about herself, so you need take an equal amount of care of her.
Seulgi:
Seulgi, the friend who would teach you all her group dances and then laugh at you when you fail them, but still say you’re doing great! Seulgi is the type of best friend you can laugh with about anything, spill your deepest darkest secrets with and then laugh even more. She loves going out for nice sweet desserts and will drag you along when she wants to try something. She loves cuddling with you and holding you when you spend the night. To her it means being really close with her best friend.
Wendy/Seungwan:
Wendy is the most relaxed best friend ever. The let’s stay at home and binge “Friends” type of friend. She would much rather order some takeout and hangout and gossip a little. The type of friend to drive the both of you Mcdonalds in the middle of the night and eat mcflurries in the parking lot. You are the first person she calls when something happens and she wants you to feel the same about her.
Joy/Sooyoung:
Sooyoung, the type of friend to lay on your bedroom floor with, while wearing sheet masks and eating chips. She loves doing the typical girly things with you, doing eachother’s hair and makeup, trying on eachothers clothes. But she’s also the type to know, when you both are upset you need to hit something and go to the batting cage to hit some stuff (you will have to comfort her the first few times a baseball comes flying out). Sooyoung is your counter part and you work perfectly together.
Yeri/Yerim:
You need to be able to take a few jokes to be best friends with Yeri. She’s the type of best friend to roast you to Hell and back and then tell you she loves you. She wants you to do the same. She always wants you around her 24/7. Your her rock and the person she vents too. Yeri still goes through a lot, no matter how well Red Velvet seems to do, Yeri is still the main subject of the hate. You are the person she needs to keep herself strong. You are the one to tell her to keep her chin up and she loves you.
[2:38pm] "Hold on a sec." Joy tapped you on the shoulder, and you turned, unaware. "You've got an eyelash on your cheek, let me get it." You obediently closed your eyes and waited as you felt gentle fingers on your face. After a few seconds, you wondered what was taking so long, and almost opened your mouth to ask before you were stopped by a pair of lips against yours. Your eyes flicked open just as Joy pulled away, grinning.

While you fidgeted in the chair across from the princess, her cold stare sent a shiver down your spine. All the mermen talked of how she was so elegant and beautiful. You needed to see her for yourself, Princess Joy. Day after day, you saw her walking along the shore. Her boots far from her as she left footprints in the wet sand. Someone caught you in their eye, you swimming to the surface to see a human. The Sea Witch. You wanted to get closer to the royal female that started to walk away from the shore. Pleading to the Witch you didn’t care what you had to sacrifice and now here you were in her castle.
“Do you have a name?” She waited patiently for your response but when your mouth opened, no voice came out. You gripped your throat and looked up at her, tears in your eyes.
How am I going to tell her? That I’ve been watching her? That she’s the most beautiful person I’ve laid my eyes on. How I’ll give up the world for her?
“15 days, child.” The witch’s voice echoed in your head.
“Useless, can’t even speak!” Joy angrily slammed her hand down on the table before getting up, “find some work for her until she decides to tell us who she is.” The handmaid nodded and let you finish your food before she let you bathe and change. You were given a few tasks to do and seven slow days already had passed by. You didn’t want to talk to anyone but her. Every chance you got to be near her was taken. Joy saw you watering the flowers in her room every morning. You delivered a soft smile every time her eyes would open to the sunlight. Your small body outside on a windy day, hanging sheets on a line. Initially, she thought you were just another person trying to get to her brother but you showed no interest to him. In fact, she purposely ignored him.
It had been 10 days since you appeared. You were dusting off books on the library until the door opened. Instead of Joy, like you hoped it would be, it was her sleeze of a brother. He asked you to come around section J of the library so he could ask you for a favor. Joy on the other hand was walking peacefully to the library. She heard low male grunting and fabric rustling. She turned the corner and came upon a sight that made her sick. Her very own brother trying to force himself onto you. Your teary eyes look up at her causing her to throw the heaviest book she could find on the shelf in front of her. Her brother fell and shouted out profanities at Joy. While the prince was down, she grabbed your hand and ran out of the library and out of the corridor. Down the hall, a left and another left. This was the route to her room. Once you two were inside she hurriedly checked you. Your apron was undone and your hair was out of its braids. There was a red mark on your left cheek. Joy’s heart stung. She ran her hand across your cheek before hugging you out of relief.
