The first Johan Angergård band I listened to was Club 8, specifically "Spring Came, Rain Fell". Karolina Komstedt's dreamy vocals were just the sound I was into at the time - the other band I remember listening to at the same time was Joy Zipper.

I didn't get into other Club 8 (Stockholm, Sweden) the same way because it was electronic/synth heavy. But then I found Acid House Kings, and later The Legends, and I realized that Johan Angergård is a musical genius.

"A Year With Club 8" rocks more than most Club 8 releases. It really reminds me of the sound of The Legends masterpiece (in my mind at least) "Up Against The Legends" - but not quite as rocking. Sometimes this also reminds me of the songwriting and sounds of Modern English, Yo La Tengo, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Chills, The Smiths or even The Bats.

This looks to be released on the bands own label. You can pre-order the LP on Darla Records.

Beach House (Baltimore, Maryland) doesn't need any help selling albums. This is a band that is releasing their 8th album, and 6th for Sub Pop.

But, this music is just so good. It reminds me of an amazing mix of MGMT, The Dears and Joy Zipper.

So please indulge us while we post a band most people have heard or heard of.

Joy Ziper / Christmas Song

Das US Duo Joy Ziper veröffentlichte bereits in 2002 den Christmas Song, der auf dem Album American Whip zu hören ist. Der Song fällt schon ein bisschen aus dem Albumrahmen, des ansonsten eher Indie- noise und Low fidelity geprägten Longplayers. Der Kontext zu Weihnachten ist aber gerade unschlagbar, ich frage mich nur, warum es 21 Jahre gedauert hat, ehe ich Joy Ziper und den Christmas Song entdecken durfte.

My musical tastes can change by the year. It's been interesting to go back and see the trends in this blog. But before there was a blog, the trends still existed.

A while back, I was buying and listening to bands like Ashley Park (Los Angeles, California) all the time. Bands like Beachwood Sparks, Joy Zipper, Beulah, Royal City, The Silent League and The Apples in Stereo all come to mind when I put on "The Secretariat Motor Hotel" again this morning.

This album was originally issued only on CD in 2003 (I'm sure at some point there will be a reissue) on HHBTM (Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records) and Darla Records.
