I like the footage showing the neighborhood constrasted with the smoky, atmospheric footage of the music performances. I also really liked the dramatic footage they made later. The whole thing feels so grounded in its world and is really amazing. The editing and compilation of so many different kinds of footage captured, almost lyrically, what he was doing with his music. A really emotional, educational and amazing story overall and great documentary!
My dear friends Angela and Alan, both comedians, could barely stop laughing long enough for us to finish this. Whatever this is it is the opposite of their relationship so it was such a blast to shoot. I could NOT get the MP4 to upload no matter how many hours I waited so I uploaded to YouTube and attached the URL.

I don't think I've ever seen a photo of the city from this angle or in this color scheme. I wouldn't have recognized NYC if not for the Empire State Building barely peaking out from behind the building. Very cool that they made NYC look new!
I think it's interesting that the couple is always surrounded by clutter, artifacts from their lives and this was a good example of that.
I liked this shot because it set up the theme of Noriko feeling smaller, powerless, quietly forgotten in the background that would recur throughout the documentary.
I really loved this documentary overall and thought it was so interesting! I really felt for Noriko but also found myself saying "good for her" by the end. I loved that it felt so cinematic and retro/nostalgic as well, despite being a newer piece. They were able to really bring out the people and their dynamic with little narration, which is so difficult to do. Excellent documentary!
I know that everybody posts the opening shot but it's too great for me to ignore.
I really liked this shot, especially with the slow zoom. It denoted an ominous tone, like we didn't really know where Naomi's story was going to go, but we understood that there was going to be a lot of pressure on her.
I liked this shot that immediately followed because it continued the zoom, but you could only see and hear the tennis ball going back and forth this time, as if we should expect Naomi's identity to disappear into or behind the sport. I thought this cut was extremely powerful.
I wanted to post just these two images to focus on how smart and touching it was to foreshadow the importance of water. This is the opening shot, and the sight and sound of the waves lapping, the modulation of it, would be repeated in almost the end of the film during the iconic, scary and heartrending beach scene. Absolutely beautiful.
