But I definitely don’t remember signing it.” The paper is fancy, thick, and the writing is all swooping lines and pretty flourishes and one of the most terrifying things Kyle has ever seen.

He doesn’t actually remember much of the night before.

Stillness In The Face Of Pain – Katie Cole/Kate Joyner

“Ow…” “Hold still.” The reprimand is soft, Katie moving to gently stroke the water over Kate’s healing burns, knowing the next part is going to be worse. Kate swallows a scream at the first brush of the medical cream, hands bunching into the cushion she’s clinging to. “Owowow…” “I know, I know.” Katie sooths gently, finally able to apply the bandage, moving away to wash her hands, setting Kate back on the bed gently, noting the way Kate shivers and tucking the blanket over her gently. “Okay, just try and rest… you’ll be fine.” She’d never say it, not out loud, but part of her is glad Aaron had just enough time to call her before he was lost to injuries. At least now Kate won’t be alone.
