Gun to my head RadioJoy getting a moment wasn't on my list
I love that she gets a seed with him because their temperaments would be clear otherwise but now there is this woman (ageless aspect of joy itself) who takes damage to save him (he did not ask) and so I am just excited to see how this shows up for them later.
Will he give her a freebie or be critical for her having taken a worthless risk? Will he have opinions on heaven's role or will he see her as someone similar to Charlie? Either way, Emily works as such a fun character to put around him because she really is always smiling for joy and he always looks like he is.
I feel like she will have a funny misread of him where she says, "like that sinner! He's always so cheerful and he even fought for hell twice he must be such a good soul!" Haha!
But while Alastor will throw things back in people's faces, Emily's act of grabbing him was just her doing what she was supposed to do. A pure creature should expect nothing in return and so he doesn't have any bad behavior to chase and punish. If she is wrong, she would change when she was made aware. She isn't in charge like Lu or Sera and she isn't dishonest or sad so she's sort of like a kryptonite to his image at least. Or she can be!
Charlie and Mimzy also put him in similar situations, with him not really wanting to do the commercial he starts with or get distracted from his work with Mimzy's problems. Actually, even with how Rosie tells him to fix it himself comes back to the fact that Alastor is determined to be dependable or self reliable regardless what anyone else can bring to him. Rosie knew he wouldn't ask for help, he would only try and convince her it was something she should do. When it comes to any woman that has demonstrated himself to be helpful towards, he will never drop the show of making it look effortless. He basically has a super chronic case of captain save a ho but in a flamboyantly asexual way where he really is just doing it for the love of the game.
He could have said "Oh, actually, it would make me happier if I could help the hotel without having a film a commercial because there is actually this whole drama I don't want to talk about " and Charlie would have accepted his reason. But he is never going to talk like that even if it solves his issues quickly. Alastor doesn't even want to present the possibility that he can't do something and he is never going to directly explain himself. Easy outs don't give him the flexibility to surprise people later and so he has more than one reason to always play coy.
Still, Emily is also not someone Alastor wants to get in a debate with, not because she's a clever mastermind but because she is Charlie without the baggae. Neither of them would change how they see the world but Emily might challenge his perceptions in a different way. She should have opinions on joy and happiness itself and be curious about what makes Alastor happy. Not just happy for revenge or justice but for what actually causes him to feel joy. Which is a road that leads towards his mother who conveniently lives in heaven with Emily. Do you see what I'm saying!
That and I haven't given up hope on heaven phone! Put a phone in the hotel to encourage sinners and make the execution angels work there ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Anyway, Emily getting hurt and being apart of the action was really fun. She's already met hells most unavailable bachelor in an usual way. I haven't given up on the idea that winners can be saints to pair with the sinners being demons. Saint Mommy could be real and she could give Emily fresh beignets to give to Alastor but she doesn't tell Alastor who they are from until he takes a bite and then she asks "How about that? Doesn't that feel like joy?" Hmmm could be good stuff I say.
