Little Red Riding Hood

The forest was always dark and looked scary. Jongsuk’s parents always told him to be careful, always follow the same path when going through it and never wander around. They made him wear a red cape with a hood, whenever they walked into the forest, so they won’t loose him. He always listened as a child. Or at least his parents thought so, since nothing bad ever happened to him on the road to his grandmother.

But it wasn’t exactly as his parents thought. He was around 10 years old when he started to get really curious. He heard all kind of stories in the village: ghosts, monsters, trees that ate people. But the one creature most people were certain about living in the forest and being a threat to humans was a wolf. Or rather a creature that wasn’t entirely human but looked somehow like a wolf, a creature somewhere between a wolf and a human. Many people claimed to have seen him in the forest. Some described him as awfully scary, others claimed that it had attacked them. Elders claimed that he was immortal. There were drawings of him, someone even made a sculpture, but they all looked different, no one could say for sure how the monster looked like.

So he was 10, and he started to get really curious. His parents started to let him go to his grandmother alone around this time. It started with a few steps. A few steps off the path, but then he got scared and went back. The next time, a few more steps. And then more. And then more. When he was 13, he went deeper into the woods, but just deep enough so he could still see the path. A year later he knew the forest enough to wander around for around 30 minutes before he got too scared and decided to head back. He had never met the mysterious wolf man. He started to think that there was no wolf man at all and adults in the village told this story to the children just to scare them.

When he was 16 he felt at peace in the forest. He no longer looked for the path, he wandered around freely, and always found his way back. He started drawing the trees, the mushrooms, and different kind of animals he saw there. It was silent and peaceful. People from his village never went to hunt, they really were afraid of the forest and Jongsuk didn’t understand why - but also he didn’t mind the fact that noone else was around. It’s been 6 years since he took those first few steps into the forest and he never once met the scary wolf man.

That day was just like any other. He was walking around, listening to the birds, picking up different kind of weeds, just having fun in his own little world. He has been there for a few hours already, when he heard a noise from one of the trees. „A bird”, he thought and he looked up. There was a man sitting on one of the branches, looking down at him. Jongsuk never saw him before. He didn’t see him properly even now, and he thought his eyes were playing a joke on him, because he could have sworn that the stranger had two pointy ears sticking out from under his long hair. He wasn’t from the village, that was for sure. It was kind of scary - or rather, unusual - to see any other person in the forest. Just as Jongsuk was about to ask who he was, the man’s eyes lit up slightly and his deep voice filled the forest. „Little Red…”

That was 2 years ago, and now Jongsuk was sneaking out of his bedroom window, eager to get away from the family that got together to celebrate his birthday. He ran to the forest, putting on his red cape as soon as he was out of the village – but now he had other reasons to wear it. He was already out of breath as he arrived to the big old tree. As he was catching his breath, a big shadow appeared over him and he quickly turned around, finding himself trapped between the tree and the myserious bad wolf standing in front of him. His heart started beating fast as the man stepped closer, a dark smirk appearing on his features. He couldn’t help himself…he smiled back and reached up to wrap his arms around the wolf’s neck, pulling him closer. The man wrapped his arms around Jongsuk’s waist and their lips met in a soft kiss, both smiling.

„I missed you, Yongguk…”
