Finally finished the last two forms for Blixer with like half a year in between drawing
This is Final Boss and Annihalate forms, I'll bring back the previous refs too so we got the whole collection here
Bleh old ref jumpscare
Now I ramble about each form a little, because I don't talk about Blixer much here
"Created appearance" is the first form and what Blixer was supposed to look like. She's a robot with the power of the purity/hero tree infused into their being. They were created to absorb the corruption malice across Paradise that harms the shapes there, and turn the corruption into a usable energy. Upon the first attempt though, things went very wrong very quick.
"Freshly corrupted" is the time between Long Live the New Fresh and New Game, and can pretty much tell you how the plan went. The shapes overloaded Blixer with corruption, and she couldn't handle it. The corruption fried their software and causes the metal to rust away. Blixer then got mentally corrupted and attacked their own creators, which lead to the burrowed corrupts and the start of true corruption attacks.
The "Queen of Corruption" rebuild is the New Game form. After the initial attack, the burrowed corrupts rescued and rebuilt Blixer to now fully serve the corruption rather than purify it. From then on, their tail fires out beams of raw energy rather than working as a vacuum.
The "Ruler of Paradise" form is equivalent to Final Boss. Blixer successfully getting two stong pieces of purity tree is supposedly what caused the tree to split for each hero once the corruption was sealed. The corruption and energy that Blixer held was almost too much to contain, even in their rebuilt frame, so she had their tail be split into three parts to try and counter the energy overload.
Blixer's desperate last attempt to keep control of Paradise and the corruption caused them to go into a T.I.O. form, which is possible because of their sentience over machinery (this is also why Cyanide and Deadlock can go into a T.I.O. form). Their frame once again couldn't handle the energy levels as they transformed.
After Blixer and the burrowed corrupts were sealed away, Blixer was quietly rebuilt back to their New Game/Queen of Corruption form, which is the form they took for most of the fourth corruption as well.
I am here to talk about my unpopular opinion and my dumbass shapes (as per usual)
Creatures Ov Deception and Paper Dolls is a FIRE JSaB duo and I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else try it. Maybe it's just me but the energy they have is so similar and despite having commonly used shape attacks they're both used in unique ways
For me I got Dez and Dalen, I call them Origami :3 (not a ship name, I just like giving duos or groups fun names)
It's been almost a year since I talked about their stories, so why not talk about it again?
Dezmond (Dez is his common nickname) lived a pretty chaotic early life. Both his parents didn't really understand what he wanted out of life, and though his sister was always kind, they were too afraid of being punished to ever outwardly show support. Eventually, Dez ran away from home, and never returned. He began building the life he wanted on his own, stealing food or supplies from others to thrive. He taught himself basic magic, learned how to hunt, escape danger, and became happy with a life he had built up without anyone bringing him down. His scarf had been torn from a scuffle with his mother, but it's his main reminder of his sibling and means too much to him to discard. It's too short to wear normally now, so he keeps it tied around his leg.
Dalen has always struggled with kleptomania. He wasn't starved of food or items as a kid, yet there has always been a need to take things for himself, even things with no significance or point to him. He became more known and hated by shapes over time, for his clumsy and destructive appearances in towns. His backpack is almost like a emotional support item to him, even though most of the things inside have little importance to him. Almost all the things he carries around weren't originally his. He exiled himself to live away from anyone else, in hopes that it would stop him from taking anything, but he quickly became overwhelmed and anxious by his own mind. Even after hundreds of heists his plans and execution were always messy and often ended with him getting cut or scratched up.
Dez and Dalen first met when they were both trying to steal from a stock of fruit in a unknown shape's shack. Dez was next to silent and gathered fruit easily, while Dalen was much more clumsy and ended up giving the both of them away. Dez used Dalen as a distraction to get away from the agitated shapes they had taken from. Later that same day, the two found one another again. Dalen had gotten mildly hurt, something he was very used to by now, and he was pissed off at Dez taking his finds and not helping him flee. Dez offered him some of the fruit he still had, which Dalen reluctantly took.
Dezmond got the idea to partner up with Dalen in later schemes he thought up, and maybe teach him a thing or two. He had already learned to thrive, now he just wanted to have fun. It was then that he learned that Dalen didn't steal for fun or survival, and that he didn't even want to most of the time. It was simply something he had to do to satiate his mind and keep him calm, even when he got guilty after succeeding.
Dez didn't want anything to slow him down, he didn't want any struggles to overcome or any problems to solve. But something in him said that maybe it was better to help out this time. So he taught Dalen how to take things better, while monitoring how much or what he was taking. He would then take the stolen things back to where they were when Dalen almost always forgot about them. For the years onward, the two became next to inseparable friends.
...Then, Dezmond was chosen by the deities to wield a divine weapon, a strong tool tailored to the wielder, made of energy and summonable at the shape's will. The shapes trusted with these powerful tools are commonly called guardians.
Being given this weapon changed the trajectory of Dezmond's life. He wanted to be free and wild, but could he do that as a chosen protector to Paradise? He threw the life he built and loved to the side. At first, being given this weapon crushed his spirit and left him questioning everything about his ideals. But he picked himself back up, and began working tirelessly to keep the lands safe. And things only got worse as time went on. Most acquaintances he made he left behind, not having the time to hang out anymore. He still stayed with Dalen sometimes, but not patrolling or defending for a while made Dez nervous. He didn't even know why he started pushing himself so hard, was he scared of failure, maybe?
In current times, Dez and Dalen have reconnected again. He and Clash are slowly trying to re-teach Dez that he can have his guard down and have fun again, even with the divine weapon. Dez struggles to know what life he wants to continue down now, but no matter how scrambled he feels, Dalen never gives up on him. Dez never gave up on Dalen all those years ago, after all.
OKAY so I plan on formatting big updates in my AU like this for now on :> I like making it appear like a big important thing because to me my AU is in fact a Big Important Thing
I think that's all I wanted to say as a intro? Anyways now onto what has recently been added!
- I'm giving Data Mind an AU tag! It'll be under use from now on as "jsab data mind" because for some reason Tumblr loves to keep tags in lowercase. That's fine. Not all arts or ramblings of Data Mind will be tagged, only things that give info, lore, worldbuilding, or anything similar. (Though I'm not putting any restrictions on using the tag if anyone reblogs anything AU related.)
- There's a new sub-type to association songs, called collab songs. These are songs that are associated with two different characters, and they help resemble their relation or past. For example, Zenith and Endgame have Thumper by WaterFlame as a collab song, which includes part of Zenith's voiceclaim and Endgame's energy style.
- The Dashlands' world is separated into "sectors", which are the different areas that have ranging aspects to the enviroment. There's a total of 104 sectors across the Dashlands.
- Matrix-02 (my name for the Project Arrhythmia world) has had it's world detailed a little more, mainly on Malfunctions. Matrixian Malfunctions are projects that have had their coding messed up, causing them to take a glitched and mangled form and become incredibly hostile. Think of them as this world's version of T.I.O. forms, in a way.
- And finally, I'm further developing my 80+ kontentsu characters. What I mean by this, is I'll begin working on each character's height, home location, food preferences, energy types, resistances, and maybe a few other things if I think up something else. Just note that this will take a long time to complete for all the shapes and others.
I promise I'll do things n' stuffs for Shapes of May at some point, but I've been more focused recently on worldbuilding and story planning. That's all I have to say for now :3
The newest addition to the Data Mind cast, and my first run with my new ref sheet layout :3
Anubis is the last part to the storyline I've been trying to draw for like the past year. He's Cleo's dad, who was killed by Keygen but later on revived. His revival was uneasy, as he wasn't found dead immediately and he had lost a lot ov blood from what killed him, being impaled by a katana. He was found alive but unconscious by a duo of traveling shapes, and brought to northwestern Paradise to rest and be cared for, later on relocated to Veetragoul as he had fallen into a coma. Now awake again, years later, he's actively finding his way back by tracking the energy of his old divine weapon.
He's only recently woken back up. His memories are hazy and his motor functions are still choppy, but the drive of returning to something he doesn't quite remember yet has set him off into the world once again
Plus has no canon design so I decided to give her a AU design at least. Bro has not a single art or anything smh /lh
Plus is the Paradisian deity of pyrotechnics and explosives, with wings of plasma and hair of compacted gunpowder. They are commonly mistaken to be a yokai, but her origin stems from the chemical reactions of Paradise, not a shape's desire for explosive destruction. Their actual purpose is keeping the dangerous chemical reactions in the world stabilized, though the powers of corruption have bested their abilties.
Other than Tangent, the math shapes are sorta in a place of half-canon to Data Mind. Since they're AU designs on their own, as the original characters all belong to my cousin. It's similar to where Circusic used to be before I cut him from the story. They get to be in math limbo I guess
As I begin updating everyone's refs, I won't be putting them all here unless I have a reason to, like important design/story change or if it's asked by someone
As for Keygen, you may recall that he was a triangle before. He started off as technically a square, then it didn't fit so I changed it to something that ended up fitting even less. I try not to make bigger changes to a character like this, but I've been pretty unhappy with what kind ov shape he was for a long while, especially since I like the rest ov his design, so it's finally fixed :3
Didn't lock in for an actual AU art but you get to have some anatomy things for today
More explanation under cut
A shape's ear slit is typically covered in fuzz (along with most having longer hair) and not outwardly visible, but its how they hear sounds and breathe. Shapes with animal-like ears obviously have those instead and do have better hearing than a usual shape.
"Sharp" sounds are noises in the environment that don't effect a shape's energy. Its typically felt in their head if at all, and is things like voices, movement, or other common activity in the surroundings. "Booming" sounds are felt in a shape's chest, and is sound that may not be heard as well but effects the shape's system. The most common example is rhythm in the lands, each shape has a different requirement for how much rhythm they need to function best or use powers, and this is what that refers to. This can also be some song/voice energies that can warp a shape's senses, and most forms of corrupted sound.
The shape's evolved system is very optimized, having both breath and booming sounds travel the same path as the nenryo and lungs are very close to one another, but this comes with the downside that corruption or stronger booming sounds can effect a shape's breathing. This is why corrupted shapes get out of breath quicker and have lessened hearing to sharp sounds.
When a shape is severely hurt or in extreme conditions, the nenryo swells to increase energy output, which ends up taking up space their lungs usually need to fully breathe. To counter this, their ear strains and flips to cover more of the higher entry to direct more downwards, heightening their breath and making them quicker and better react to energy changes. However, this means that they can't actually hear as well. This is what a blind rage can look like for a Paradisian kontentsu, as along with their mind cutting signals to focus on a threat or priority, they also can't hear their surroundings nearly as well.
