STUDY ABROAD IN GREECE!
GREECE SUMMER 2020 STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM

Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece and the American College of Greece.
-- June 23 to August 17, 2020 – ($6,495) --
The program brings students face-to-face with the extraordinary history, culture and stunning scenery of Greece, while studying Roma (“Gypsy”) communities in Athens.
In its 16th year, the program offers students 15 UW credits in International Studies. The application deadline is January 31st, 2020.
Applicants may qualify for a UW study abroad program scholarship worth up to $2,500. In addition, there are a few scholarships associated with the UW Hellenic Studies program, in particular the Theodore Kaltsounis Scholarship (deadline January 31, 2020) worth up to $3,000.
Participants enjoy the wonderful cuisine of Greece, see major historical sites like the Acropolis, Delphi, Meteora, Olympia (where the Olympic Games began), Mycenae of Trojan War fame, and visit beautiful islands, including Hydra where no motor vehicles are allowed. Many group meals are included in the cost of the program.
There are no language or other prerequisites and all UW students can apply.
Students can also help plant trees to honor migrant victims who drowned crossing into Greece.

InterAction Nepal - Spring 2020: Applications Open
InterAction Nepal | Design, Development, Global Health | Spring | 2020
InterAction Nepal is an immersive, interdisciplinary study abroad program offered with the support of the UW Department of Landscape Architecture, the JSIS South Asia Center Nepal Studies Initiative and the Department of Global Health. The program will challenge you to delve into contemporary issues surrounding urban development in the Kathmandu Valley and respond to them at a local scale through community-based participatory design, project implementation and assessment. You will work with Nepali students and residents of an underserved community to design and build a small-scale project and evaluate its impacts on human and environmental health. You will also have the opportunity to pursue your own design or research interests through independent study. Program activities include lectures and discussions, language instruction, field trips within and outside the Kathmandu Valley, community workshops and hands-on design/fabrication/construction.

How do developments in artificial intelligence, robotics and automation affect exports from poorer to richer countries? How does trade in advanced materials foster new technologies around the world? From 3D printers to blockchain, new technologies are having an immense and disruptive impact on global trade. Join this course to understand the fundamentals of global trade and how technologies are transforming the global landscape.
In the first part of the course, students will gain exposure to global trade theories, trends, and policies. In the second part, students will focus on how disruptive technologies are becoming global trade game-changers. Coursework will include case studies, numerical problems, and collaboration with experts across the world to find real-world solutions to current problems.
This new JSIS offering allows matriculated UW students to work side-by-side in the same class with a cohort of international students participating in the Global Connections study-abroad program. Modelled on the JSIS Task Forces, it gives students the opportunity to work together and face pressing global challenges.
