at the start of both of her confessions sakura establishes herself as someone who doesn’t truly know sasuke since he never tells her anything/can’t trade blows with him (to see into each other’s hearts). and yet anytime sakura was given chances to better understand sasuke she fumbled them. one time she outright said she doesn’t care about what sasuke wants. she’s had moments of ‘? what’s going on’ in relation to sasuke on multiple occasions yet never followed up on them. which is why, when she speaks about sasuke’s feelings (revenge won’t make you happy… or me…) / (if there’s a corner of your heart that still thinks of me please don’t leave I know if we stick together it can be like the old times again), it falls flat. and part of why (amongst other things) sasuke responds the way he does in return.

I’m Japanese but in the Japanese fandom, actually there are a lot of 2chan(the jp ver of 4chan basically) threads discussing about the possibility of Naruto being homosexual, and actually I’ve seen a good portion of people admitting it even when the basic demographic of 2chan are extremely homophobic. In the Japanese fandom, for alot of ppl the last straw to make them think he’s homosexual is that one scene in chapter 175 where Sasuke and Naruto are about to fight in the roof top and Naruto expressed his excitement. I forgot the official English translation, but in Japanese Naruto says “何だこの気持ち…下腹の辺りがキュンとする…” which directly means “What is this feeling….my lower stomach feels tight/feels butterflies…” Idk how this sounds in other countries, but in Japan this expression is generally used by females who are sexually turned on and therefore feels their uterus going tight because of that. So many people in the Japanese fandom were shocked when they first read this line including me, cause it literally means he’s being sexually excited in a VERY non-hetero way. In the middle of his thoughts Naruto also remembers when Sasuke tells him he’s interested in fighting him, where Naruto reacted “ドキ”(aka “doki”). So yeah I lot of people just agreed that there was no heterosexual explanation for this scene, I still can’t believe Kishi decided to use this expression😭
I can't believe the editors decided to publish that 😭 Kishimoto has often linked fighting/getting stronger with feelings of excitement for both Naruto and Sasuke so it's definitely a running theme for them. The last straw being chapter 175/700 is so funny.
And thank you for this ask! So Kishimoto knew about all the gay allegations (since he probably frequented the forums himself) and he did nothing to stop them, he just kept feeding the flames. Wow I wonder why he did that 😀
a very important aspect, i think, of trent reznor’s songwriting and why it comes across so intense and genuine and impactful (and - listen - so bisexually) is - despite the number of songs he has regarding pain and rejection and bitterness towards a partner - his lack of casual misogyny. though he makes it consistently and intensely clear how miserable he feels about himself and how angry he is at others, it’s never in a way that makes you think he just hates women. even in reptile, for example, where he calls a woman (well. a “she”) “whore,” it’s not used in a derogatory way but with perhaps adoration, longing, self recognition.
as another point, he doesnt tend to describe the appearance of partners. he focuses very heavily on how people make him FEEL (physically and emotionally), and expresses a visceral and very intimate sexuality and attraction, without ever describing someone physically or remarking on their beauty or “sexiness.” it makes his feelings seem more genuine and also more easily relatable; you could picture anyone. you could picture him.
and, his consistent use of “you” or “she” to refer to partners in his lyrics, instead of petnames like “babe” or something like “that girl,” also adds to the sense of intimacy and personal respect, even towards people he clearly hates. he doesnt see himself as better, by default, than whoever he’s singing about, even if he sees himself as (correctly or incorrectly) the victim. you have to feel for him.
