Junkers Ju 290 V1, WNr 90 0007, the first Ju 290 which was modified from a Ju 90 airframe, unloading supplies during the Stalingrad airlift, Pitomnik Airfield, January 1943. Junkers Ju 290, WNr 110165, 2 August 1945. Because of the large numbers of former Luftwaffe aircraft arriving at Wright Field for evaluation, Freeman Field in Seymoou, Indiana was designated as the Foreign Aircraft Evaluation Center.

Eventually 160 Axis aircraft were housed at Freeman Field. The evaluation program was administered through Wright Field, and flights between the two were commonplace which must have been quite the sight!

Here is a view of the starboard side taken the day after her arrival at Freeman Field. She still wears '022' on her tail, which is the original inventory number assigned by the British
