The Pace Report: "Turning A New Page" The Claudia Acuña Interview WSG Grègoire Maret
Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring vocalist Claudia Acuña performing new music from her new album "Turning Pages."
Claudia was raised in Santiago, Chile and established herself as a young vocalist then made the plunge to New York City in 1995. As began to make a name for herself in New York, she was mentored by pianist Harry Whitaker. Claudia performed at some of the top jazz clubs in New York like Bradley's, Sweet Basil, and Arturo's. In a short time, she collaborated with the likes of George Benson, Joey Calderazzo, Tom Harrell, Jason Lindner, Arturo O'Farrill, Guillermo Klein, and bassist Avishai Cohen. She made her recording debut in 2000 with her critically-acclaimed recording "Wind From the South."
On her latest release "Turning Pages" she collaborated with pianist/composer Ray Angry and features Gregoire Maret on harmonica.
I sat down with Claudia to talk about her new album, reflections of her native Chile, and her mentors Harry Whitaker and Abbey Lincoln.
