“You’re home early...”

Makoto had only just returned home herself, barely changed out of her school uniform when the elder walked in. She was thankful that the team didn’t have any plans to venture into the Metaverse that day... Otherwise she would have had to lie to Sae about her reason for leaving the apartment. But, that could come after she gave her sister a proper greeting. The Priestess carefully took the other’s usual handbag from her, setting it aside to allow Sae to remove her shoes and enter the room proper. 

“How was work?” She smiled, trying, perhaps in vain, to appeal to the woman. It was probably a stupid question, though... Work was stressful. Work was all-consuming. Work was all Sae seemed to care about, no matter how much she might have hated it. Makoto shook her head to ward away her own self-doubt, “I was about to go meet a friend, but... If you’d like, I can stop by the store on the way home and buy what I need to make some soup.”

Her secret weapon... The Priestess knew that her sister enjoyed the soup she made... And she knew it was among those few little pleasures that Sae allowed herself to indulge in amidst all the business and tension that plagued her. As strained as things were between them, there would always be that little girl, deep down inside the stoic Queen, who just wanted to make her ‘big sis’ happy. She knew couldn’t lose sight of her, the way she had lost sight of her own justice. And so she lingered, not daring to continue with her plans for the day without confirmation from Sae.
