Ryuichi Sakamoto's scope of influence is not limited to electronic music only, his impact can be also reflected in the contemporary classical music and a multitude of composers in that mode could consider him to be something of a secret presence in their works. Max Richter is probably one of those melodists, even though his songs differ from Mr. Sakamoto's, they are delegated to the post-minimalism idiom. We could elucidate the label, true, yet the thing is that I don't agree with it, since his music overlaps with ambient, classical and many others, so designating it to just one term feels inadequate. Additionally, he mixes subtle electronica with orchestra in an organic way that makes his tunes sound both conventional and alien. Hm, you know, the previous sentence could describe all the masters of the modern classical scene.
