SPOILERS - Post Spiderman BND ramblings (incoherent)

i worte this as i was gg home from the cinema so this is so insanely incoherent I am sorry for what youre about to read 🫪

May Parker's quote on her grave ' when you are kind to someone you are kind to everyone' literally the whole theme of the movie. Peter spends 4 whole years all on his own with no one. for 4 years he is spiderman not Peter Parker. because nobody remembers Peter Parker. only spiderman. and even with no one to see Peter Parker, the top his character he stays kind. even through all the tragedy and loneliness he stays kind and helps the people of new York. and he sees everybody for who they really are not as the thing that makes them different because the very market of Peter Parker is to be empathetic. his opponents are never people to defeat just to stop and correct. the 4 whole years he thought he had to be spiderman alone but really he had the whole of new York with him.

and with his interaction with DeWolf is clear that he tries to keep his distance with everybody. he didn't know about he rpersonal life (e.g. her kids names) and she didn't know anything about him. but when he finally sees the truth someone else (Jean Grey) that he, just like her, cannot do it alone .

he finally let's people in. he spent the whole movie resisting JG's telepathy but when she needs him most he finally let's her in. and in turn she let's him in. In a way hes accepting that he needs to let people in to help people in a way that matters and sticks. He tells her that he will be on her side even when she's hurting others because she needs him. He gives Jean the only kind thing that kept him going for the 4 bleak years, May's words of comfort, and let Jean get the same comfort that he got from that memory. and in turn she keeps him alive when he took a bullet for her , a kind act for a kind act. His vulnerability gave her the human connection that Jean needed. a connection that Peter also needed not to spiderman but to Peter Parker.

he is not two separate people. he can't be spiderman without being Peter Parker. he is both. because spiderman is born out of Peter Parkers kindness and empathy. by trying to isolate Peter Parker from spiderman he lost the whole point of being spiderman. but Peter is not good at isolating himself from spiderman. which is why the community and people of new York still love him. because he is kind to them so they are kind to him. by the end of the movie Peter learns how to be Peter again. by connecting with people he cherished (ned, mj, Frank, dewolf)

I wish they would drive the point of the people of New York adoring Spiderman more by having him interact with strangers more but eh its fine

Theres so many moments that reference the previous movies I had so much fun watching this movie. I have endless thoughts about this

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I’ve come to the conclusion that Michelle’s character would’ve worked better had she stuck with her morals like in homecoming. There should’ve been more of a slow burn between her and Peter because Peter idolized Tony stark, known war profiteer and the reason for Ultron (who killed a bunch of innocent people) and Michelle was introduced as a character that wouldn’t like that. She was portrayed as a cynical activist that wasn’t afraid to speak about injustice. To me she definitely seems like the type to say “eat the rich” which I guess is why I was so confused when she had a crush on Peter in FFH so quickly.

I get teenage crushes happen instantly but Michelle isn’t the type to shake her morals and beliefs for anybody, as shown in brand new day, when she refused to work for a “soulless” corporation. I think if Michelle had shown a little more reluctance to start a relationship with Peter (especially when he had those fuckass stark suits) it would’ve made their relationship more interesting. Peter would’ve been forced to think about his relationship with Tony and how Tony’s actions have impacted people around the world (like vulture and mysterio) like Michelle says and maybe she could’ve even convinced him to give up the stark suits earlier AND THEN he would’ve been his own hero (I’m still very annoyed that it took three movies for him to have his own suit)

I keep seeing these posts saying Zendaya’s MJ and Kirsten Dunst’s MJ both loved Spider-Man while Emma Stone’s Gwen is the only love interest who loved Peter Parker more than Spider-Man and let me just say this is a lie in the case of Zendaya’s MJ! If the first trilogy didn’t make this absolutely clear then Brand New Day one hundred percent solidified this fact. If MJ loved Spider-Man more than Peter Parker then she would’ve remembered having feelings of some kind for Spider-Man because the spell didn’t erase Spider-Man from her memories or erased the man behind the mask aka Peter Parker. If she loved Spider-Man more than Peter Parker I genuinely believe that her interactions with Spider-Man throughout the film would be very different. One of the biggest themes of Brand New Day was to tell us that it’s not Spider-Man that makes Peter Parker special it’s Peter Parker that makes Spider-Man special and having MJ love Spider-Man more than Peter Parker diminishes that theme. It’s very clear that MJ wants to get to know Peter Parker not Spider-Man when she finds out the truth and when he wakes up in the hospital to her drawing among all of the get well cards it’s meant to symbolize that her drawing was for Peter Parker while all the other cards were for Spider-Man. Setting Brand New Day aside I thought it was clear that she liked Peter Parker not Spider-Man but I guess there’s one scene that may have confused some (slightly dumb) people. I wanna make one thing clear you can tell by her facial expressions that she was lying on the bridge in Far From Home when she said that she was only watching Peter because she thought he was Spider-Man. I also think she literally admits to lying about that later on in the film. She clearly had a crush on him in Homecoming before she knew he was Spider-Man and if you think she loved Spider-Man more than Peter Parker in No Way Home then you’re delusional and didn’t watch the same movie as me. That’s the end of my rant about how these post are blatantly lying about Zendaya’s MJ but to avoid confusion I’d like to point out that the stuff about Kirsten’s MJ in these posts are one hundred percent accurate and she absolutely loved Spider-Man more than Peter Parker. That relationship was one of the weakest elements of otherwise great movies. And one more thing Emma Stone’s Gwen is still the GOAT and I’m glad at least she wasn’t a victim of the slander lol
